Default Road Trips

Hey folks, Jim here.
I'm considering purchasing an S2k in WI (my home town) and driving it back to my duty statin in San Diego, CA. the reason I'm thikning about doing this is because prices (and mileage) seem to be alot lower on average in Milwaukee WI, and the midwest in general, so I figured I'd purchase and Register an S2k in Wisconsin and after my leave/ vacation, take a road trip back with a friend (or dad) back to San Diego. So am I nuts? or is this something that is possible or a "good idea."

-anyone here done a big trip before in their S2k? What are some good precautions to take? (extra oil, a bra for the bumper?, a case of redbull?). Is it best to just buy one in Cali and try to haggle it down to a better price?

all thoughts and feedback are wlecome.

I'm going to take a trip (16+ hrs) from the east coast to the middle of the country when I return from overseas (and purchasing one). From what I've read though, long trips aren't too uncomfortable in the S.

In april 08 my girl and I did 3500 miles in 10 days and had a blast. Very comfortable cruising car and good MPGs to boot

I'd say go for it. Great chance to get in touch with your new ride

i've done 12hours straight in one day. its not bad at all. extra oil is always a good idea.. but i never bothered. you'll enjoy it esp. if you get decent weather and can run top down for a few legs of the trip.

caffeine is bad in the long run. highly recommend water instead of red bull. also eat regularly... like something at every stop. don't overeat at one place, as that'll make you more tired. those tidbits go for any long drive though, S or not.

I drove up to South Carolina a few weeks ago and it was a breeze. Clearly that's not nearly as far as you're talking about going, but the car was very comfortable for the whole trip and got over 27mpg even with two of us, a full trunk and the a/c on the entire time.

I would not hesitate to take it on another road trip given the chance.

Wow, these responces are surprising. I though I might have been the only one who thought the S2k was more comfortable than the "critics" and "reviewers:" give them credit for. Now I can't wait to drive it cross country!
However, I'm really not surprised that a Honda can handle constant usage and long distance travel, given their rediculously durable engines.
-My friend Don has a CBR 600 F2 pushing close to 80,000 miles...it's a freegin bike! I always use it as a perfect example of the durable nature of a honda engine -anyways.

thanks for the approval folks. -Looks like I'll be takin a road trip soon.
-I'll take some pics along the way and post em.

yep you should have no problem with the trip. I had drove from florida to south dakota last year with my wife and it was fine. And just last weekend my wife, puppy and I took a trip to denver from south dakota and back it was a 1300+ mile trip and the car ran great oh ya for the denver trip my car was boosted with an inline pro turbo kit

Drove 1,000 miles to get my S home when I bought it. It's very comfortable on the open highway IMO. For one thing, most highways I've driven on are far smoother than the local roads but I'm from Houston where the heat and humidity tends to quickly destroy pavement... Might be a bit different if you're from a drier climate. I've noticed that Phoenix and Tucson, for example, have sme very nice roads.

I bought mine for retirement road trips and it has exceeded my expectations. Thus far I've done four 4k trips to the east coast and back and three meandering trips through the southwest visiting national parks, etc. Longest stint was 16 hours straight as part of a two day dash from upstate NY back to southwestern SD.

Verdict? The S2K can easily be a great road trip vehicle as long as you properly factor the meager trunk space. I take basic cleaning gear, including a collapsible camping bucket, as well as normal emergency equipment, all of which doesn't take up much room at all.

I took a 5 hour road trip from Miami to Gainesville last month. Very comfortable and no complaints during the ride...but when I got out of my car, it was a whole different story. My back was killing me due to the lack of lumbar support. And this occured both ways, to and from. I'm also 6'2, so that might be why.
