Default Rollbar and value decrease?

Hey all. Have been looking into an RSG rollbar for the S2000. Not to say my MY2000 is mint, but I would consider it a nice, fairly low mileage example and pretty stock. I am reluctant to even roll the fenders and modify the tabs for larger wheels. Cutting through the floors kind of terrifies me. The upside is the safety aspect that it may bring in the event of a roll over.

I want to hear your opinion on whether or not the value would be decreased if a rollbar were to be installed. Thanks.

If it were me buying, yes. Tells me the car was used for track purposes (and possibly abused). If its a track car, no problem but this lowers my willingness to spend top dollar on the vehicle as a result.

Others may give differing opinions.

Any modification lowers the value to (probably) most buyers...........

I've even kept my original air intake and exhaust so I can return my car to stock when/if I ever sell.

Unmolested s2000's are getting harder and harder to find.

So true..

Dammit. May just forgo the rollbar and find another toy to mod.

EDIT: I have no intentions of getting rid of the S2000 lol

People that track their car seem to have better maintained cars and change there fluids way more often in my experience.

I wouldnt at all disagree with the fact that many owners that autocross and/or track day take exceptional mechanical care of their cars.

The average buyer doesn't see it that way.

They think rollbar= track= abuse.

Plus, with a mod such as this, you don't just unbolt it and go back to stock (such as an exhaust, wheels, intake, etc.).

If resale value is important, then rolling fenders and a roll bar kills it. But if you intend to track it - safety first and enjoy the heck out of it. We are not talking about a high dollar car anyway.

If you don't cut plastics, you could actually remove the bar and I'm guessing most buyers would never notice the difference. Those that would know where to look are the ones who would likely understand that a seriously tracked car is likely to have been well-maintained.

For your local S2000 community, tracked S2000's are usually owned by well-known members and the cars can be vouched for (or not, depending on the owner).
