Rolling back the odometer.
Technically you could use a $50 yellow box to commit odo fraud. You could intentionally set it so you're always going like less than 10mph. Although speedo would be off, could probably bypass this too by using a different gauge etc you would report far less miles than driven. Your mileage on public records will still increase and may not draw suspect as u can argue the car is barely driven

They don't, and there is not a way to know 100% if it has been done. After numerous searches the only solutions to detecting a digital odometer roll back is to check the records/carfax for the mileage, and also inspect the car for abnormal wear for that kind of mileage. Which if an S was taken care of there is no real way of comparing. From what it seems like they are saying that because it's a honda with 70k on it with a spun bearing. They probably think that is to low of mileage for that to happen or something. That's my theory since there is no real way of detecting it.

yeah, I still haven't heard back from the guy who supposedly knows how it was rolled back.
if he has proof, I plan to pursue legal action with the dealership I purchased the car from.
if he has no proof, then I don't know....

They only mentioned Odometer Fraud when you mentioned trading it in. My guess is that the cost of a new engine + whatever services are needed to resell the car are more than it can be sold for.
Sounds like you have enough documentation to prove the odometer reading is correct, if you choose to go that route.

Did you purchase the $5500 motor with 160k miles?
If your head is still good, and your bottom end is rebuildable <--- which I would only trust a quality machine shop to make that guarantee, you can have it rebuilt and installed for 2500-3k +-. Machine work, oversized bearings, gasket kit and a few other here and theres you could be up and running in a couple weeks. May be more worth your while to get a used engine for around 3k with 70-80k miles though...not 5500 specially with 160k miles
