Default Roof care

Hi guys.

So, I use my car at most 4 times a month. It is locked in a garage. Question is, when in the garage, should the roof be up or down if I hardly ever make use of the car? Which would be best to ensure a longer life span for the roof?

I have had my S2000 eight full years, and it has always been garaged. I leave the top in the last position it was in when driving, so sometimes it is stored with top down, and sometimes with top us. Due to the minimal exposure to sun and rain, the top looks essentially as good as new. I have never bothered with any 'treatments' for the top material.

No problems leaving it down.

I have mine since 2000 (10 years now). I always park it indoor with the top up, because of security reason. Never parked under hot sun for prolong period. I wash it with the same shampoo I wash the car body with. I don't apply anything else. The top looks as new! (Except that the plastic rear window is a bit smudgy)

Do you have glass or plastic rear?

I think that would be the determining factor. The 'vinyl' cloth should be able to handle either top up or down for extended periods. However, if you have a plastic rear (early AP1), I would store top up. I always store my 00 with the top up to ensure no creasing of the plastic rear window.

Damn you guys have had your tops last!! I bought mine used but top was perfect. About a year later started tearing, fading, creasing etc. Must just be the daily driving factor that does it I guess.

My '03 is parked top up in the garage 90% of the time. Original top looks like new.

Top up is better unless you have a hard top installed on the S
