One of the reason's I'm considering new rotors (when I get new wheels) is to eliminate the rust problem. From what I understand rotors such as Powerslot and Brembo for instance won't rust right after a wash, will they?
Rust is not a problem. After a couple of stop-n-go's, it's gone. If you want to get rid of the rust on the edges of the rotors, then paint it, like someone suggested. Personally, it doesn't bother me. And if you're looking for more stopping power, get pads and better tires. Like I said, x-drilled/slotted rotors are worthless and a waste of money.
Also, I'm not sure if any of the other aftermarket brake rotors eliminate that rust "problem." You'll have to try them out and see.
one of our sponsors, spugen sells drilled and slotted cad plated rotors (nice not to have rust- and i installed them "backwards" so they dont dust)- they do look nice:
I got some slotted (Centric) rotors from Brakezone (thru Duc @ Spugen). They are cadmium plated and looked good......for a while. Now I have the typical rust showing in some places (not as bad as OEM), but they have warped!!! A little disappointed about that fact, since I have not tracked the car. With 40k on these rotors I am now considering having them machined.....or going back to OEM and painting the edges before installing.
I am leaning towards painting the edge of the calipers black. I have been told that they will increase performance (drilled), guess not. Just dont like the rust look. I know the face rust goes away after driving. When the rotors are shot, I will go with high quality drilled for looks, or maybe BBK if I have money left after the SC.
