I just recieved a japanese video i got from eBay.

Its mostly about the S2000. But there was an additional section in it which compared a bunch of tuner GTR's. Each tuner had their own approach to modifing the car.

Anyways, according to the driver one of the cars was suprisingly stiff. So they had a side scene discussing the how they made the car so much stiffer.

They said rubber (translation at least) looked like foam. They demonstrated it with a plastic tube. They mixed a small amount of a 2 part solution, and shortly afterwards it dramatically expanded. Then they showed another tube fill with the rubber (foam) dried. It was super stiff. as far as weight i don't see it weighing more than the bottle they used.

Then they went to the car, opened the passenger door, and showed the holes they drilled to fill the door sill.

They noted that they foam can be bought from any reputable tuner shop (i guess in japan). The translation didn't show any brand, and they didn't show any bottles with labels.

Has anyone heard of this type of modification? Is there any down side? (like corrosion). If you do know about it where is it sold? and how much does it cost?

You can buy this foam possibly from a home supply store. I'm not sure of how much it may help stiffen the chasis. But carbon fiber wrapped foam cores are very strong and stiff in air planes and such.

be really careful. expanding foam has a tremendous amount of force. I found out the hard way.

Yeah and it is messy as hell. It will take weeks to get it off your hands and nails if you get some on you.

kitwetzler,
you actually tried it? What happened? and What is worth it?

Seems like a simple mod to do. But the volume must be calculated preciesly.
