A nice short DOHC V4 with a torquier lowend powerband. With the shorter block it shouldn't affect the weight distribution too much either. Also, with the space in the middle of the V you could drop in a nice little blower or intercooler.

Isn't the block in the S2000 the same basic block that Honda used in a 1 litre displacement configuration to be the first to get more than 1500 hp from 1 litre?

er... surely to god if such a feat could be accomplished then it'd need some extreme forced induction? Alloy blocks (e.g the F20C) are not well suited to that
