Default rust!!!

My friedn has an 01 s2k. I went over to give him a visit, and i noticed that he had quite a bit of rust on the brake pads. Its not only on one, but all 4. And he is the kind of person who keeps the cars clean. Is there any way to prevent this, and has this happened to anyone els?

I've heard that the brake rotors on the S2000s are notorious for rusting very easily. In fact the S2Ks I've seen in person have always had rust of some sort on the rotors/pads. Maybe a new set of aftermarket rotors, and pads would help?

I'm sure you were referring to the rotors, not the actual pads (unless he is running racing metal pads..) Nothing to worry about... Every car's rotors rust, even if the car only sits for a couple days... Completely natural...

i have posted several times that i would like to see a brake upgrade option- but this would be an expensive option.

They rust looks worst straight after a wash/wax.....how wierd!!

I always drive it round the block after a wash just to get them cleanish via the pads but I think it is a persistent issue that is part of the make up of the car.

If you wash your S and let set for over 12 hours the pads will rust to the rotors. When you let out the clutch they will "pop" loose. It took me a several time to figure what the popping noise was.

you can have your rotors or replacement rotors cad-plated. most aftermarket rotors have this. it prevents such rusting. and yes, its very normal for rotors to rust like this. it usually happens right after it rains. but then you drive around for a few minutes and use the brakes, and all is well. so... ferrariman's friend just had his car sitting for a while.

Cad plating works well. Until it wears off. In about 10 stops...
