Rust under the hood
Yes, old post, but it seems more appropriate to add to this duscussion vs starting a new one.
I just took a look at a 2006 S2K with 28,000miles on it. It seemed great on paper, but in person I saw some things that worried me. I've been around a few S2000s (older than this one, for the most part) and I have never seen signs of corrosion under the hood. This car had signs of corrosion in the low part of the trunk where the jack resides, as well is in the engine bay. There was some beach sand in the trunk of this "weekend car" and I'm guessing this car was probably parked at the beach on those weekends. I saw signs of corrosion on the aluminum, the red paint was peeling from the valve cover, the quick clamps were rusted, and some of the components had red rust on them.
I'm not sure how much of an issue this amount of corrosion actually is. It looks like it's on parts that could be replaced, but what I worry about more is what this indicates about hidden areas of the car. Is this the sort of thing that could be cleaned and not worried about?

Normally I would agree with your logic regarding continuing the discussion of an existing thread; however, the OP in this case included a poll about the specific car he was looking into at that time in 2011. So, this is going to cause a little confusion. It really would be best in this instance to start a fresh thread. You could possibly reference this older thread if you think it is pertinent.
Sorry to make you cut and paste into a new thread, but it should only take a minute or two out of your life and you may end up with better results that way.
