Anyone here have there car rustproofed? I wouldnt drive the car in the winter but during the first month or 2 in the spring there is still a heavy salt residue on all the roads around here. What do you think?

Hell no! It adds weight. Also, not necessary. The car should have adequate rustproofing from the factory. And, If you rustproof a car that has been driven before it was rust proofed, there is a chance that the rust proofing material could actually seal moisture into the car and make it rust even faster.

Yep... but I had it done through my dealer on day one before taking delivery.

If you get it done further down the track any reputable rust proofing company will perform an inspection of the car first.

Will someone explian what they mean by rustproofing?

A long time ago when there were lot's of companies out doing it, they would spray theunderside and the inside of doors etc.

Usually it made the problem worse not better because it blocked up the drain areas and trapped water against the metal actually accelerating rust later on.
The whole way it worked was as a bet on the manufactirer. It was like a scam. They would pay if the car had rusted through. They would do the install then you had to pay an annual "inspection fee" to get the car checked.
If the car had some rust but hadn't rusted through you had to pay to fix it. But If you didn't fix it, they didn't have to pay.

I had it done right away. My car is guaranteed to be rust free for the life of the car. Paid $299.00 Canadian. Not sure about coverage when ownership is transfered. They said that they will inspect the car for rust after 2 years and want to repair small rust areas before they get out of control.

If there is salt on the roads then there will be salt on your car. Ever notice the white salt marks on your shoes. Rust is nasty! I've seen newer cars turn into rust buckets real fast.

That is exactly why I will never drive mine until it rains at least twice after the salt was last spread. That's what beaters are for.

Has rust appeared on anyone's car that hasn't been rust-proofed and is a daily driver in the snow belt? If nobody's car is rusting then is rust-proofing worth it? I didn't have it put on mine but I drive a 4x4 beater all winter.

Perhaps you should consider moving to a warmer climate. Seriously, I think most manufacturers provide multi-year rust warranties. Next to paint sealant, I think undercoating is one of the biggest dealer rip-offs going.
