Default S/H s2K advise

Dear All,
i'm looking into purchasing second hand S2k.
before that i had turboed Mazda Miata.
i'm considering now what is called here "2005" exemplar - no TC but with 3 lights real tail lights.

it did 70,000 km (~43,000 miles).
it looks reasonable clean.
i drove it and it felt OK and tight.

i'm afraid of a little high mileage and possible breakdowns and high repair costs (Miata was quite cheap on this )
but there is almost no choise - S2k are vere rare over here and blue book of 2005 is ~43,000$US (painfull isn't it? ) (new one costs here ~80,000$)

pls your advise on this year/mileage and what to check (i've read FAQs).

i would happy to fulfill my old dream and get myself this amazing machine

43k is nothing

change your fluids (oil, trans, diff, brake) and you should be fine...other routine maintenance (brakes, tires, etc) should be expected

you could always take it for inspection at a local mechanic

do you know the vehicle history?

of course i will take it for "pre-buy inspection".
maybe even to the main country garage (luckily it's in my home town).

it's a second owner car.
big problem it did it first 7,000km (4,300 miles) as an importer's demo car.
all caustomers and auto reporters drove it hard.........

Where is "over here"? You're sporting the USA flag.

BTW - mayb a stupid question, but still..........

ther car i'm looking at has aftermarket audio system and head unit.
i would preffer to go for a stock "upgraded" Alpine and get audio controls nearr the driving wheel operational again.

what exact Alpine model is OK and what harness os other adjustments are required?
any idea about costs?

Thanks,
Gennady

I have 30K miles on an 06. It's a Honda. Look around and you'll find plenty of examples over 100K that are running fine.

You don't need a stock head unit. You need a DCI. Most of us recommend the one from Modifry. Check out the Electronics subforum.

Guy,
i'm puzzled.

i went today to check 2006 S2K (it's EU 2.0L engine).
it done 50,000 km.

VSA was ON all the time.

the cutch is quite heavy.
chassis communicated quite good.
ride quality is firm but not too stiff. good balance.
i felt that engine doesn't bread freely and go up to the revs quite slow.

i'm talking about driving at highway in 4th gear at about 4,000 rpm - press throttle and it goes up not as fast as i get used in the miata......

is it normal?

it felt like engine is choked.....

also the cockpit is very small and engine noise is loud even at the low revs....
brakes felt weak and with no bite at all.

i start to thing that S2K might be too hardcore for me.......

what do you think?
