S is for scary
I drove the Z4 as well before making a decision. You won't feel one with the road with the Z4. Its more padded and mushy, but its more comfortable to drive in compared to the S2000. The S2000 will feel more responsive handling wise although both cars handles the same skid pad wise. Good luck on the test drive. Be careful not to punch through the right angled turns. Taper it outwards and be safe.
WOW AK huh?
Seriously, how many months out of the year will you be able to drive it? Just curious...in windy city I drive yr round but snow tires turn the S into a rear wheel drive civic for 4 months a year.

PLEASE do not buy the Z4. Buy a Boxter S, or even a Z roadster, but please--no a$$-shark...I mean, land shark. I'm sure you'll like the S much better. And might I suggest a driving school? It'll help alot.
lessons learned:
1. the S does not stick too well if you drive a bit too hard in the cold and in less than ideal road conditions
2. the back end will indeed come around if you lift off the gas. NEVER LIFT!
3. Probably not too wise to push a car that you're test driving and are unfamiliar with.
That being said, once you learn the nuances of the S, there's nothing like it. Glad you're ok and didn't run into anyone or anything else!
I personally find the myth of how loose the S is to be just that. I've had the back end break on me twice, and both times it was just because I was stoopid.
After taking an AutoX school with the PCA, I have learned that I really really really have to push the car to get it to misbehave.
You'll love yours.
