I was the same way until I moved to Colorado (previously: Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas). I owned generic vehicles that did everything ok, and I'd get bored and want something else.

The generic vehicle days are over. I've got a purpose-built offroader (FJ Cruiser) and the S2000, because that's the kind of driving we have here. I'm thinking of adding a third car, something for road trips or comfortable cruising (leading: Lexus GS460).

If you think it's possible that you will keep the S2000 then extend your search area, find the perfect one and hang onto it. The version of this car to keep for the long-term (in my opinion) is an '06+, you get the tunable ECU and traction control.

I paid $18K for my '06 Laguna Blue with 42K miles on it, granted I got a deal because it was in a ski town in October. But your $25K budget should be able to get you a pristine low-miles car when you expand your search area. Use AutoTrader, put your ZIP code in and set the radius.

Good luck!
