S2000 or 400HP WRX ?
It's one thing to lift of before you start turning, it's another all together to lift off to cause oversteer.
"when you go into a turn too fast, you will always, ALWAYS have understeer. "
I would say the threshold of going in to fast is much higher in a stock s2k. The WRX will greet you with understeer WAY sooner than the s2k would.
To get oversteer in a stock wrx you need to lift off at the apex (or pull the e-brake which is bad for the drivetrain). Otherwise you get a hand full of plow toward the outside of said turn. I've owned two AWD impreza's, they were not as enjoyable up to the limit as my S2k is.
"the idea is to enter a corner at the proper speed, maximize the friction circle, and exit with as much speed as possible without spinning the wheels. maybe that isnt "fun" for you, but that is how you drive fast."
No question this is how to drive fast through a turn, do this in a WRX, then a S2k and tell me which one was more fun?
Have you owned either car? I've owned both. If you just took a WRX and added 170hp it would still be less fun for me.
I'm saying regardless of hp the s2k will be more enjoyable to drive fast, especially when focusing on the proper line. The wrx is more fun when your drifting it, but like you said that's a dangerous way to do it.
"plus, a fwd car will behave exactly the same way as a rear drive car in the previously described situation, because the powered wheels are not a factor. if anything, an extemely forward weight biased car will be more dangerous in this situation because you will typically plough through understeer and any sort of acceleration will just cause more understeer (called torque steer).
"
So your saying drivetrain has no effect on handing feel (maybe your just trying to talk about the situation you've made)? I think
you've constructed something from my above message I didn't intend.
Again this is all just for me, this is how I feel about my cars. Perhaps others feel differently. Don't try to use the maxim of speed to prove something is more fun. Speed != Fun for me anyway.
Snappy = dangerous = fun for me. It's like cheating at video games, when there is no risk it's not fun anymore. Bad weight
distribution and front driven wheels take fun away for ME.

sounds like we agree ed.
of course the s2000 is more fun. where i think you are wrong is in the fact you make it sound as though fwd/awd cars inherently perform worse than rwd. the differences between a wrx and an s2000 are primarily in the fact that one is a short two seat sports car and the other is a sedan. the wrx has a higher weight, longer wheelbase and in general inferior suspension to the s2k. even an m3, obviously a good car, suffers the most from the fact that it is still a two-door sedan, and is thus bigger and heavier than it could be. the s2000 benefits from the fact that it is pure and honda put all their effort into making a great sports car.
verdict is the same, s2000 is a better sports car. its is just that sometimes people need more than that, like room for 4, and increased traction.
peace.

You're not the only one that has driven all 3 of "your picks". I own two of them and I've now taken both an auto and a manual 350Z out, clocking now 100+ miles. Clearly you're not a trained, aggressive driver if you really believe either the Miata or the 350 handles better than the S2K. I will agree that both of the others are more forgiving for screw-ups and people that do not know how to race a RWD. I will never agree that they "handle better".
Seems like you need to go buy a Z so you can at least compete with us. You'll still be frustrated, however, if you have to have the car help you out, rather than knowing the car and knowing your self and knowing the road. Anything else is ignorance cushioned by technology. Why frustrated? Because if you have to rely on the Z's forgiveness, you'll lose just that edge of performance that allows it to keep up and maybe win. If you can't push it WITHOUT the car's help, you'll always be looking at an S2K's rear.
