I read with some interest a comment from Silver Bullet in some thread recently how he wished the S2000 was an Acura so he could better service. I have a 2000 TL and visit the TL board on occasion. Several months ago there was a long thread about how some members felt that Honda should have made the S2000 an Acura instead of a Honda. The Integra (RSX) would have been downgraded to a Honda in conjunction with, or in place of, the Civic.

The S2000 would give Acura a more sporting image, as the NSX doesn't do anything for Acura as it's too expensive and too rare. (As I visit the Acura dealership here in town, I know there are salespeople there that have never seen an NSX, not to mention driven one or sold one.) The 'invisible' NSX, a great a car as it is, does nothing for Acura. The S2000 would help its image and bring people into the dealership. In recent years Acura has lost much of its luster by making several errors in judgement. But this isn't the Acura board...

I can attest that the S2000 brought me into the Honda dealership, something I would not have done for a Civic.

Any comments?

as "acura" only exists in the US market and given the significance of the S2000 in Honda's history and the fact that it's not targeted only at the US i doubt it was ever even considered.

I guess I don't understand the argument. Was this a marketing boo boo on AHM's part? I really don't know what Acura's image is. Acura's brand is pretty weak compared to say Lexus. I think they want to be upmarket like Lexus but who knows. Driving an Acura hasn't got quite the same ring to it as driving a Lexus much to AHM's dismay I'm sure.

There is no precedent for Acura to be considered a "sportscar" brand. The NSX, like you say doesn't fit into the Acura lineup at all. It's way out there by itself, just like the S2000 is to the rest of the Honda line, maybe just not as far. With the exception of a couple or Integra/RSX products everything else doesn't fit and even they aren't sportscars, just sporty.

Honda's sporting moniker is Honda. Those are Honda engines in those race cars, not Acura engines. So I see no reason that the S2000, in the footsteps of its distant relatives, be labeled anything but Honda.

Greetings!

I was thinking about that. But an S2000 is a Honda. So it should be in a Honda dealership. In Japan, and NSX is a Honda. Acura is just a ritzy name for a more expensive HONDA.

Acura's ARE Honda's.

Let's not forget that.

this has been argued upon in the past. I think it comes down to - if Honda marketed all their cars as "Honda" in hte US instead of Honda and Acura, there would be too many cars.

Right now, not even the salespeople (the majority of them) are knowledgable of what they ar selling.

I think its lame how there are different divisions here in the states. Sure there are too many cars, but how do the japanese deal with it?

I just think its funny how alot of people look for brand names to feel good about the quality of a car. Ive driven many cars for my lifetime. And I love the way an S2000 is.... it really cant be beat for its price.

then again, quality to one person may be different for the next.

just my bitter moment in regards to this topic. ....by the way, my neighbor down the street..who usualy ignores me when I try to say hi, just bought a new lexus SC coupe.

ITS On!!!
