Maturity has nothing to do with age. Experience is what counts and what better way to experience a superb driving machine than the S2000.

The S2000 doesn't seem to be real forgiving with unexperienced drivers. I wouldn't get such a nice car as your first ride. My recomendation is to get a Civic or a DSM.

yeah, at your age and with your friends and things and places you would go, i can think of few times you might put yourself in danger...

you may be able to control most of the times...but sometimes
peer pressure + adnerline rush + pride + emotions fly high ~= you can be the unfortuate headline on 9pm news...

start with low profile...go to driving school with extra money.

Now... this is my opinion and is only an opinion so take it for what it's worth. I am 20. I'm not old. And I'm certain that some owners on here would balk at me being the owner of an S2000. I don't know if it's jealousy since they didn't drive such a nice car back when they were my age or they think I'm an idiot or what but either way... I own one, and it's not mommy and daddy's money, it's mine.
Now, from what I have seen in both of your posts it looks like you aren't really ready for the car. Both times you say something irresponsible followed by something quasi responsible to make up for it. You say "I will probably kill myself in it" and then "but I'm a safe driver". Also, I can't wait to put my foot down and feel the horses etc etc" and then "I'm a safe driver..." To me, it doesn't sound like you are a safe driver. It sounds like you'd crash the thing before you knew what was going on.
Perhaps if your posts were more mature in nature (ie I've read lots of positives about the gearbox... tell me about it. or what kind of maitenence items am I looking at? Anything to watch out for when buying used? ps all of those could be answered by searching however you posted a searchable topic already: what current s2000 owners in general feel about young first time car owners getting an s2000)
I say, get a cheap car. A cheap car doesn't have to be a crappy car. There are plenty of fun and cheap cars out there. My first car was a 1996 Mustang V6. Was it fast? Not particularly. But, it was rear wheel drive, was light enough to be fun in corners, and it was American so things that broke weren't too bad to fix. I learned ALOT by driving that car. I learned how a car handles in the snow, wet, dry. How hard a car can be pushed and what are the signs the car is braking loose etc etc.
I'll let others say anything I've missed. Just a few things I thought of...

It's not about the power. If I were your parent I would sooner put you in a car with MORE power than an S2000.

Let me explain that a little better.

My first choice for a first driver would NOT be a high horsepower sports car. It would be a saturn or civic. Something that is safe, somewhat tossable, but not stupid fast.

If I were given the choice of say, a Mustang or an S2000 I would suggest you get the Mustang. Now, keep in mind I HATE mustangs. It GALLS me to even suggest it. The Mustang has more raw HP than an S2000 so what gives?

The bottom line is that the mustang is easy to drive and it FEELS faster even when it's not really going that fast. The S2000 offers too much confidence at high speeds. You think you aren't going as fast as you are because it's so stable and smooth. The S2000 handles GREAT, right up to the moment it doesn't. Once you pass that moment your in a ditch, or off a cliff, or in a guardrail or worse.

The S2000 requires experience to drive it. It has bitten me and ALMOST put me into a wall twice. I promise you that it will bite you if you get one so young.

I don't have any kids (that I know of.) I do have a 16yr-old niece who is about to start driving. I would let her drive my Z06 with me in the car. I would let her drive my 1997 Trans Am by herself.

She will NEVER drive my S2000.
