s2000 "black box" ?
as posted on Slashdot.org (total geek news site) http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/04/15/1350233
"Setting a precedent for the Canadian legal system, a Quebec man was convicted based upon the incriminating evidence found in his own car's black box."
A black box "stores data on how a car is driven in the last five seconds before a collision".
Does the s2000 have such a thing? If so, can we turn it off? I don't like the idea that my own car could be spying on me.

You're an idiot. If you were driving over the speed limit, which everyone does, you could be charged with a crime when otherwise it would have been called what it was, an accident.
People like you welcome the police state with open arms.

Don't do anything stupid that would put you in jail, or even worse, kill someone.

Drive Safe (isn't that the point?),

You're an idiot
This guy was doing 3 times the speed limit and killed someone. Serves him right, and the black box did its job.
Yes, everyone speeds, but when you get pulled over, do you get a dangerous driving ticket for going 10 or 20 over? If the black box had him going 10-20 over, would he have been found guilty of dangerous driving causing death? Probably not.
and do honestly consider a guy doing 160km/h in a 50 zone thru an intersection an accident?
Basically from what I get from you is that everyone has the right to do something blatently stupid, and you're pissed off that you can now get caught easier.
While you're at it, why don't you remove security cameras from convenience stores, so then you can go shoot up the place, take some money and a few ho-hos, and you won't get caught....PERFECT!!
And if what you call "a Police State" is required to prevent some dumbass from T-Boning my wife at 160km/h, then I'll be the first in line to vote for it.

Thanks!
As far as the particulars to this story goes: It sucks that guy was going so fast and killed someone. Yes, he deserves to be in jail. However, I am much more concerned that I would be denied warranty coverage becasue my own car "tattled" on me for hitting VTEC too much or whatever. I don't ever drive more that 80 on the freeway or 5-10 MPH over the posted speed limit elsewhere, so I'm not very concerned with going to jail.
Furthermore, and again I agree this particular guy deserved what he got, it IS very big-brotherish to have a thing I own spy on me. Sure, police used it appropriately IN THIS CASE, but how long is that going to last? If a technology CAN be abused by the powers that be, it WILL be abused sooner or later.
Before long, cops will be pulling you over for "driving while riced" and just check your black box until they find something. "Aha! you went 5 miles over 3 weeks ago! Your getting a ticket!"
And don't tell me "just don't break the law", because you NEVER EVER exceed the posted speed limit even by 1 MPH, do you?
