Let me go OT a bit.

Why did Honda end production of the S2000? Ok, I undestand the long production run, technology, emission laws, etc. But I would thinkg Gen 2 would have been a great car, even if they use 75% of the exisiting car?
I heard that Honda decided to stop production because they saw the recession hitting and it is their opinion that convertibles don't sell well in recession. It was most likely a move to avoid future financial losses-whether real or imagined.

The car was a 'gift' to us honda fans for their 50th anniversary. Recession or not Honda never intended to keep this car in their regular line up. Why they kept selling it after sales volumes tanked 6-7 years in is beyond me.

The Honda brand also has taken a major shift from the initial design of the S2000 in the 80's. Today Honda is 'green' and Acura 'sporty'.

Amen rob-2! You nailed it, IMO. Just look at the production video and the fact that it wasn’t intended for a 10 year production run is plainly obvious. Honda should be commended for manufacturing a car with methods which practically guarantee that it couldn’t have been a money maker for them for an entire decade.

My CR was my ‘gift’ from Honda for my 50th birthday. It’s my little fountain of youth – it does bring the kid out of me when I drive it!

As far as the original question is concerned, all I can add is that I fell in love with this chassis on the test drive. The honeymoon isn't over yet. I doubt it ever will be.

Like a rigid body slot car, you wouldn't know if you were just sitting inside looking forward through the windshield. It was, as intended, a scaled down racing car with half the engine size, safe for the street.
