S2000 Boot Install
I inherited an S2000 from my grandfather a month ago, and I just noticed the boot cover in the garage at his house. It was pretty dusty, so I'm guessing he never used it. I'm interested in using it for 2 reasons:
1. it hides the less-than sleek look of the top when it's down,
2. this is my nice weather car, so I'm almost never driving it without the top down.
Anyway, what a pain in the ass! I tried for about 5 minutes and gave up. The side clips are easy to get on, but I don't see how getting the rear clips on is even possible. It comes with directions on the bottom, which say to attach the rear clips first but I'll be damned if I can find a way to get my hand in there to do it. Is there an instructional video or trick to this? If there isn't a guide for this, there definitely should be.

Definitely harder than on other cars. Had to cut the plastic welds off to be able to remove it to replace the shift boot. Those clips are a pain as well. I just had to pry at them a little bit with a flat head screw driver.
Never tried putting a boot on, but most truck tonneau covers have to sit in the sun for a little bit before you can finish the job. The vinyl will be much more stretchy/plyable when it warms up. It's possible that it shrunk a little sitting in your grandfather's garage. I'd talk to someone who knows leather and see if there is a good vinyl reconditioner you can use. It also wouldn't hurt to spend more than 5 minutes on the job
Here's my advice -
I use the boot all the time - trying to avoid UV damage to the roof, but having it on sometimes means you wont raise the top (UV damage to the interior). Personally, I like the finishing touch, so it's worth the effort.
- Start with the rear snaps first. Get one in and then do that side snap as well.
- Repeat on the opposite side. Then tuck the rear clips under the rear deck trim.

Hey, I am offended. I am a 68 year old grandfather and my 18 year old grandson has his eyes on my 04 sk2. Of course it only has 6400 miles on it, so it is a possibility.

^ I agree, leave it in the sun for a bit to warm up. They are a pain in the butt anyway but it's even worse when it's cold.
Btw, your grandfather had an s2000? that rocks!

Hey now, no offense meant! I'm just thinking, my grandfather is like, 87 and hasn't driven in 10 years.
The last car he had was a Dodge Caravan. I think it would be awesome to have a grandfather with an s2k

Check to see if your top is functioning correctly. I didn't know mine didn't go down 'all the way' do to the straps on the inside getting worn out from the sun. I bought the replacement straps from modifry. Anyways once that was fixed, and the top went down all the way. The boot was 'much' easier to install. Because at first, much like you, I'm like "this is physically impossible! you can't put this thing on!
