S2000 & Boxster S
I can't say I like the S2000 rear, but I don't like the Boxster rear either. Of the 2, the S2000 is less bulbous and I prefer that. But I think the S2000 rear looks too much like a production vehicle. (of course it is, but nothing else about it says so)
A lot of people will disagree with me, but I do like the body styling of the Z3, but not the car. If there weren't half a dozen at every corner it would be impressive. It has a nice muscle car look to it...very sharklike, but I know from previous posts that others hate it.
BTW, wow- its really sad about Earnhardt. It didn't look like that bad of an impact.

Front Quarter View: S2000 looks better than Boxster
Rear Quarter View: Boxster looks better than S2000
Convertible top speed: S2000 is much faster!
Covertible top looks: Boxster looks better up, and the sleek no boot cover retraction is a far more elegant design than the S2000.
Note that the $50+K Boxster pictured does not have the $1,100 optional HID headlights. (orange headlight lowers vs. clear with the HID)

Well, I will be the first to admit that I am a huge Porsche fan and a big Boxster fan. Of course, the MSRP of $48k for the S2k and the MSRP of $76k + 15k to nicely spec out the Box S is a real eye opener, but I would definitely consider paying it. Both are awesome cars and both look awesome in their own different ways.
Note that the Boxster also appears to have lowering springs on it as well.

Great thread CoralDoc.
Thanks. I'd love more pics.
All other things being equal, I'd prefer the Boxster S to the S2000.
Only the $20,000 penalty and the lack of a local dealer made me settle for an S2000.
The S2000 is, by far, the nicest car I've ever owned, and probably the nicest car I ever will. That doesn't mean I can't admire the Boxster S.
Anyway, don't you think Porsche had to upgrade the Boxster to the S because of our S. How embarressing is the Boxster 2.7 next to our beloved S2000?

Wow! I'm stoked that this thread has been so well received. Ask and ye shall receive:
pfb - Yes, my friend bought a "stripped" model. The only factory option was the addition of a "dynamic stability management" system. The base "S" does not have the nice HID lights of our car, nor cruise control. Even so, it's very nicely appointed inside. The convertible top liner is beautiful and the dash looks much improved from earlier models. There is the same woeful amount of storage in the cabin, maybe even less than the S2000! One neat feature is that the windows lower a small amount whenever the doors are opened or closed. I guess that makes it easier to do so, and perhaps to protect the rubber seals?
S2kRob - Another winnah! In addition to the wheels, my friend also lowered the car by 1 - 1.5".
William & Barry - here's the link to the photopoint site with 3 more pictures. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?...7442&a=11642969
The tops were up for several reasons. 1) I had just washed and polished my car. 2) It was raining in the area my friend drove from. 3) We were experiencing intermittant sprinkles. 4) It is "Fall" in South Florida. The end of the winter is the driest time of year, and that is when many trees shed their leaves. The oak in the front yard is losing a lot of leaves now and we wanted to avoid having to rake out our cars
. OK?
Enjoy!

IMO, overall the Boxster looks bloated and overweight while the S2000 looks lean and mean.
The rear end looks much better on the Boxster than on the S2000 -- unless you put a rear spoiler on the S2000. With the rear spoiler on, the S2000 looks stronger and less Miata-like from the back.
Plus Boxsters are a dime-a-dozen in my area. Seeing another S2000 is a rare event!

What did your friend think of the S2000?
Also, I'd be really interested to know what the ride quality would be like in the Boxter S with the wheels and drop of 1.5". Must shake your teeth out?! Looks hot though!
On another note in reference to one of the post's above.....My boss (who used to be the chief sponsor of Dale Jarrett's car through Ford Credit) and is a BIG NASCAR fan, said that Earnhardt had no broken bones, but died of a massive head injury.
NASCAR crash investigators are "guesstimating" that Dale was subjected to 22 G's in the crash. Guess there's only so much the body can take.
Farrrrrrkkkkkkkk
