Default S2000 burning oil?!?!

Hello everyone,

OK, to my shock....I check the oil on my 2000 s2K yesterday. Last service was at 28K miles and I now have done 4,500 miles since that. And the oil level was a little less then the "low" mark on the stick!! I topped it up to "High" when cold..... OK, I know I should have been checking the oil more often but......it took a litre to get it up to the Max. A LITRE of oil burned in 4,500 miles?!!? I say burned as there is no oil on the drieway where I park.

Are S2k's normaly oil burners?? WHat should I do??

Thanks as always,

Adrian

I don't see anything extraordinary in that, esp. in the S2000, where even Honda acknowledges that a little oil consumption is ordinary. A litre in 4500 is nothing in my opinion. Note I say consumption rather than burning, since burning usually invokes images of mechanically unsound engines moking visibly.

You need to check your oil at every fillup, period.

I still do after driving 97k miles on mine and it still burns oil.

Depends on the car...My car has 11,500miles and I vtec and Redline at least every day. Since I switched to Synthetic I havent seen any oil consumption whatsoever...

Just make sure you check your oil very frequently...

I know this is an old thread. I would love to see only a liter burn in 4500 miles... Mines insanely depressing. ive only had my S for about 5 months, had three oil changes in that time. since the last 4000 miles ago, ive added 8 qts on top of the 5 with the oil change and still kind of low. 13 QUARTS... Its under warranty and i need to take it in ASAP, but im a college student and dont have much time. Oil is going to break me. What the hell could be causing this... Im not in Vtec daily, and it does not leak a drop!

Burning oil on Ap1s is so normal that Honda recommends checking oil at every fuel fill up. Mine burned ~1qt every 5k miles until I installed DIY krankvents.. now the chickens prevent it.
