Got this video off the Corvetteforum.com

Filmed not too long ago at Grattan Raceway in Michigan, it is of in-car video footage of a guy in a '99 Race Prepped T1 C5 Corvette chasing a very well driven S2000. Let's just say that the C5 couldn't keep up!!!!........... http://www.clearcall.net/biz/images/wreck3.mpg

Lost it at 100mph+ and he broke the guard rail!

The guy in the Corvette had some temporal lobe swelling in his brain, but no broken bones. The car cost $15,000 to fix. It is now repainted yellow and is being driven as a street vette. I think that the guy is taking a break from racing for a while! I'm glad to know that he is ok.

By the way, I thought it was the S2000 that had a finnicky rear end????

That appears to be the King prepared S2000 that raced in T2.

Wow, Two things come instantly to mind.

First, to me it looked like the Vette was following a terrible line compared to the S and second it is amazing how fast things go wrong when you are racing.

For me this is more scary than the in car footage from Daytona last week.

The C5 seemed to gain a little on the straights, but the S2k just ran away from in in the corners, and it did look like the S was running a better line. But ive got to give the C5 owner credit, he was much calmed than I'm sure I would have been had I just rolled my car.

Um, is it not strange that the airbags did not deploy? Is that part of the race prep? Also, what went wrong there? The car seemed fairly planted. Power on over steer? I wasn't expecting him to go there. Now when he crested that hill and go squirmy I though he was a gonner.

Looked to me like it was all about power oversteer. Sucks that it happened, but it was fun to watch...(must be the sadist in me)

Did you notice all the skid marks right where the C5 lost control?
Looks like he wasn't the first person to lose control on that turn.

I don't know, it looked to me like the Vette had a lot more power on the straights. He caught up to the Stook pretty easily. What was interesting was how cleanly the Stook was being driven. It was taking much better lines through the corners than the Vette.

Airbags didn't deploy because he went through the fence sideways. It looks like he hit the fence with the right side, then maybe hit a post causing the car to initiate a roll. Must say the roof held up very well.

I agree, looks like the vette applied too much too soon trying to catch the S2K out of the corner. Still hurts to see a fine automobile munch it.
