S2000 or Civic Si

The SI would actually bring out the racer boy in you more than you think
Get the S and just take it easy. Cruise with top down and just enjoy your ride. No need to use all of 237 HP on tap.

I agree. I think you'll drive more carefully with the S2000
If you keep thinking like that, you'll never have an S2000. Buy the car, get it insured, and start autocrossing - you'll learn a lot about how to drive it and will enjoy it much more than a Civic.
[QUOTE=markstudy,Dec 3 2007, 08:30 PM] Not to be a jerk back....
but don't you think that Honda engineers came up with enough new ideas in the last 6 or 7 years with the engine design to make the 06's Si better at some of the things that the S2000 lacked? (lower RPM's don't feel as slugish)
I don't care if its Ferrari or Honda...

So i am almost 100% set on buying an 04 or 05 S2000 but i keep doubting myself and thinking that the new si would be a better choice. I am graduating college in a few months and will finally be buying a newish and most importantly reliable car. i have been a research whore with the S2000 and have read just about everthing there is on the web about it and i love it! I have test drove both the AP1 and AP2 multiple times and want a silver one with red/balck interior. however, i keep thinking that since i am still young i may do something stupid with my dream car (like street racing or crashing it). I have a perfect driving record right now but i think the temptation could possibly be too much with the 8k redline and 237hp. so i am debating if i should take the Si since it seems like a nice compromise and once i save up enough money and am more mature the S2000 would be a better fit for me. Especially since my good friend totaled his dream car (a Dinan tuned 1999 M3 in less than a week) what are your guys thoughts on the matter.
-thanks

You can shift an S2000 at below 6k and it's like driving any other under 2l roadster, but if you're a lead foot (like me
) then the S2000 *will* tempt you, and if you're not able to resist, you'll eventually get into trouble. That said, there are outlets that can greatly reduce the temptation to do questionable stuff on public roads and streets. If you autocross regularly and/or do track days regularly (or some mix of the two) then you will probably find it MUCH easier to keep your cool when you're driving on public roads. The temptations will still be there though, and if you're weak like me, you'll cave in to them all too often, but it's not a given. Before we bought our S2000, my wife and I talked about how long it would be before I lost my drivers license.

Honestly, you can't get an answer to the kind of question you're asking from other people. Back in 1969 when I was 21 (about your age now?) I was driving a Fiat 850 Spider, and as far as practacality goes, for me, two seats was practical enough. Next to an 850 Spider the S2000 looks HUGE, but you'd be amazed at what a couple can do in the passenger seat, and the trunk is plenty big enough to pack a picknick. At your age I would not be worrying about conventional ideas of practacility at all.
FWIW, I'm a habitual speeder and unconscionable lead foot (for over 40 years now), and in the four years that I've owned the S2000 I have not gotten a single ticket.
I was in the same situation not too long ago. I was looking for a daily driver to replace my 96 Civic with nearly 300k miles on it. The Civic still ran great, but repairs and maintenance started to become more frequent. In the end, I bought the S2000 - it was bought as a Honda certified and the price seemed too good to pass up.
After driving it a while, I realized that maybe it wasn't the best choice for a daily driver. It's loud, bumpy, and small. You're reminded of this when you're cruising down the highway in traffic. I forget these things when I can take the car for a spirited drive or put the top down. I ended up keeping the Civic and still use it as a daily driver.
In a year or so when they update the current Si, I will likely purchase it for a daily driver. The s2000 ended up becoming another car that I don't drive on weekdays.
Before making your decision, ask yourself what you'll be using the car for. Will you be driving to work or taking mass transit? Do you want/like to drive your friends around? Is snow an issue in your area? Ultimately, only you can decide if the s2000 is the right car for you.

uh... what other 4 banger pushes 240 hp besides the f20&f22? (rwd by the way)
on a straight line (or in the twistys) im sorry but the Si will get murdered like a joke.
new ideas in the last 6-7 years?
the new civics are running k20 engine (rsx-s motor) but the rsx is still tuned better than the new civics ? i agree that the new civics have a very smooth ride but i feel that the s2000 (ap1 or ap2) has even a smoother ride, especially when taking turns.
ap1s have pretty stiff suspension, but i <3 the stock clutch and the 9k rev.
the f20 is something else. its one of a kind.
I dont want honda to give the s2000 a new engine,
i wish they kept the f20.
