Default S2000 convertible top cover

Hi I just got an 04 S2000,

Is it important to put the top cover on when driving with the top down?

Any thoughts appreciated

I put the top cover on ..... a shelf in my garage, the day I took the S2000 home, slightly more than two years ago. It has never been moved from there. A little bit of debris may occasionally fall into the well which holds the top, but it seems to do no harm.

It really boils down to a personal choice. It was one of the first things I tossed in the attic. That was three years ago and I've never had it on since. I have no plans to ever use it. It takes up a great deal of space in the trunk and serves no real function except to 'perhaps' keep out some dust & dirt when the tops down and it makes the look better in photos.

welcome and

if I'm going to have the top down for long periods of time ... and decide to park it with top down too... I put the cover on... I like the protection from extended sun exposure to the inside of the top that it provides and also like the cleaner look when on...

the top cover design is not a great one...not even good...its a PITA...some people say it was designed for weight savings vs a hard cover - I think not and that its simply a bad design inherited from brit roadster days; an attempt at doing something Miata like ( suit on); it is my only crticism of the S design.

I only use it for extended top down driving. Especially, if it is highway driving.

I like the look with the cover on.

Parking with the top down is really not an option for me since I live in Brooklyn.

IMO, the more you put the cover on the easier it becomes and the faster you can put it on.

i never leave the top down for extended periods, so i never have a use for it. it doe a good job of keeping out debris/dirt from the internal parts of the convertible top mechanism, but if you drive short distances, you will be fine.

I only use mine for the looks and that is if the top is going to be down for a while. It is a pain to put on a pain to take off and there is no room in trunk after you put in there. Mine stays in a closet most of the time. But if you don't mind all of the trouble it makes the car look alot better.

Keep mine in the garage maybe used it 5 to 8 times in
the last year .It does get easier to deal .Was able to put my friends on his 04 in a few seconds.I may use mine more as a result of that .Its more of a look thing than anything else. It's not as big of a pain as it once was .Just takes up way to much trunk space .

I have mine in my closet. I don't plan to ever use it. I don't think it looks that good either way. I hope the '05 (or later) models will eventually incorporate a built in tonneau cover like the Boxster.

I've never used it.

I like the look with it on, but I rarely park with the top down for extended periods of time.
