S2000 Custom Leather Dashboard
Has anyone considered having the entire dashboard covered with fine leather?
I think it would really add to the whole roadster experience to have the smell and feel of real leather right in front of you instead of the vast plastic landscape that composes our dashboards right now
.
I have leather covered dashboards in my other cars and they really create a much more classy feeling than any plastic dashboard can ever even come close to, IMO.
Imagine a 360 Spider with a cheap plastic dashboard
.
Techart does such mods to Porsches and they can pretty much cover every single button in leather (the Porsche Selection factory team can do that too for that matter...) -
.
I'm seriously planning to have this mod done to my S2000 this year.
If there is enough interest, we might even get someone to market such a product like it is currently done with some excellent powder coated brake calipers...
You get a leather covered OEM dashboard first, let your mechanic swap it with your stock one (or do it yourself, if you dare to) and send your stock one back.
This process should save a lot of money for the individual customer since the R&D would have to happen only once and there will be discounts due to high volume.
Not to mention that a lot of people wouldn't even know where to find a skilled leather craftsman who could pull of such a project at a reasonable price.
You would always be able to see, feel and smell where your money went whenever you get behind the wheel of your S2000...
What do you think about it? Anyone interested?

If it makes your world go 'round, then do it, but since you asked ........... Some things are just best left well enough alone.
But on the other hand ......... I now have this uncontrollable urge to do the dash up in bright red, plush shag carpet, some LSD (I'm NOT talking rear end here), some East Indian sittar (sp?) music on the CD player, rose colored sunglasses ....... Hey, man, I can feel the groove, baby! How's it hanging?
RIGHT ON!

It's just a sample for that kind of personalization Andy - I edited it now, before everyone dies laughing
.
How about this one -

I think this mod would be great and would compliment the rest of the interior nicely. I don't think it would be that complicated either (airbag?) for the right shop. Either leather or carbon fiber would be awesome.

The problem is going to be covering the airbag panel....
That aside, I'd rather have an alcantara/suede dash like the Integra/RSX R or NSX-R. In fact, sometimes, I wish the seats were that material too!
