One thing I have noticed is the car is certainly twitchy a higher speeds especially on bumpy roads. Steering wheel input is instant so trying to be smoother through turns takes some paying attention to. Also don't forget our cars come with VSA and I highly recommend not turning it off untill you become more comfortable with the driving dynamics of the car.

No, the car is not dangerous in itself. It's bad driving skills and judgement that give the car that reputation. It will do exactly what you tell it, either good or bad. The 2006 model does have VSA which I see as a good thing for inexperienced drivers and those who prefer the additional safety on public roads; of course it has no place in autocross/road racing IMO.
S2000 drivers are dangerous on turns the car is perfectly fine. If you drive it normally you shouldn't have a problem regardless of your driving skill. If you drive it aggressively driving skill is crucial. If this is your first rear wheel drive car be very careful, especially in the rain.
I've had my 06 for about a month now. I've found it pretty hard to get the car out of sorts with VSA on. Nothing can beat the laws of physics, but you'd have to really do something stupid to overcome VSA. Turning the VSA off I think it handles great, much better than my old 98 BMW M Roadster. That thing would swap ends at the slightest mid corner bump. Turn in is quick and it's really easy to hang the tail out and modulate the throttle during oversteer. Good fun.

No such thing as dangerous cars, only dangerous drivers. (OK, maybe the Pinto is the exception...)
Seriously, though, follow the advice given here. Learn how to drive smoothly at all times and in all vehicles. Dramatic inputs of any kind (throttle, brakes, steering) will get you into trouble and these conditions are most likely to occur when you are under duress. In other words, when things go bad, habit makes us do things we KNOW to be incorrect. For example, if you feel your car begin to slide, it is very hard to resist the urge tohit the brakes... but you MUST if you want to maintain control.
Get involved with a driving course or auto-x, track events, etc. Leverage the expertise and the experiences recounted here to make yourself a better driver.
Don't have fear, but don't be a jackass or you will end up as fodder on a "wrecked S2000s" web site.
