I am looking into a new car and am seriously considering buying a S2000 in maybe less than a year. I have always loved the S2000 upon its prototype debut and have also always drooled on the idea on having one and taking it out on the road. But lately, I have been gettting much speculation from my surroundings, saying the torque is shit, car drives like a civic at low rpms, can't keep up with an M3 at high speeds unless revving at 8000+ compared to 5000+ in an M3. A lot of slander has been given to the S2000 because of it's four banger and low torque but I don't believe so. Can any owners prove this wrong and help me by giving me personal experiences dealing with driving experiences in normal street conditions? Is this a good daily driver?

Thanks

The S2000 is not for everyone, but those of us who have it, love it. A 4 cylynder engine has less torque, but makes up for it at higher RPMs. True. But tyou really gotta drive it to be certain if you like it or not. Where are you located? I am sure if you take a test ride or drive, you'll get a better feel for the car. Will someone take mrkim on a drive please?

as with many other threads of late -- comparing an M3 to an S2000 is kind of ridiculous. they fulfill different needs, appeal to different people and have different strengths and weaknesses.

and on to one point in particular -- why do all the BMW geeks act like the driving style of an S2000 (keeping the revs super high) is a *weakness*? by this standard most F1 cars are kind of weak, i mean you have to keep the RPMs up over 10k to really get good power...

Hey Joe,

Where in Mountain View do you work?

Anyone on this board want to hire a CS Major from Dartmouth who has a minor in psych and is graduating in June?

Dude: I work in Cambell and drive bySaratoga every business day. If you want to drive one, let me know. I'd have no problem with a slight detour to share the S2000 experience.

Bottom line is that you have two outstanding offers now. You should be able to make a decision after that!

You have to understand the the S2K is meant to run at high RPM. The engine is completely happy all the way to redline, in the same way a cheetah is completely happy chasing an antelope down from behind. The engine was made for it, and is more than pleased to deliver the goods with no unpleasantness at all. Unless you don't like the sound of a racing engine up on the cam, that is.

BTW, the "Jekyll and Hyde" thing is exaggerated. It's no Civic at low RPM. It turns out that Dr. Jekyll is a pretty buff guy, although Mr. Hyde is even stronger.
