If you are used to the 1,500 to 2,000 punch of a V8, don't look for it here, but at the opposite end of the spectrum it is unparalleled. This car is a real "sports car", not a dolled up muscle car. The one thing I think the gentlemen on this board overlook a bit is how the car just...drives. The car simply makes you feel like Senna. Everything about it just "snicks" into place, including you. My neighbor has a Ferrari 328 and will positively not leave me alone about trading cars for a day(soon to be realized...hey I'm not gonna pass that up!). If your idea of racing is "a thousand consecutive left hand turns", you are in trouble with this car. But if your idea of racing and fun is clipping apexes and the brilliant control of all types of joyous oversteer...there is NO better example!

New user here....have been hungering for an S2000 since I sat in one at the shopping mall (!) last summer. First car in years my wife has shown any interest in owning. We have had a long history of Hondas (CB350, CB500, CB750 SS, Civic Si and 300K mile-Accord!). Unfortunately I have a lost my credibility over ownership of Porsche 356's and a couple of Mustangs that mostly drained our patience and wallets. But the interest in the S2K looks real....I do have simialr questions concerning torque, driving in our Bay Area traffic (I work in Walnut Creek) etc. Of course the big advice would be what is a strategy to procure one and still retain some self-respect? Last one I looked at live was out here at WC Honda for an even $40K and the sales weenie of course told me "Hurry, they aren't makin' any more!" Any response is appreciated.

Just got back to check the board. If I had known you were in the bay area, I would've offered too. ANyways, if it all falls through, I'd be happy to take you for a spin too. Its one heck of a car to drive, and even to ride in. Have fun!

Just want to second S2Kguy's comment. To me, the most fun thing about the S2K isn't the speed or the boost when hitting VTEC. It's driving at around 50-55 mph, at around on roads like Hwy 9 or 35 in your neck of the woods, mrkim, and feeling like I'm riding on a rail. The car handles beautifully, the brakes are awesome, and unless you're drag racing, I think the torque is not an issue. I think the car is lots of fun to drive around town.

And how about the people on this board, offering rides like that? Way to go!

The engine output, torque wise, is low compared to 6 and 8 cyl engines. But the car is light. it's not a drag racer, but on twisties, it's the best. It's just amazing to me that this car is even in the same performance arena as cars with twice and almost triple the displacement. What the engine loses in torque, it gains in lightness (that is what the Honda engineers were going for) for great handling and weight distribution. the only way this car will drive like a Civic is if you drive below 2.5krpm, and only use 1/2 throttle.

But if want to beat everything off the line, the new M3 is probably more what you want.

Well I've driven many a Civic and not one has ever come close to my S2000. My son has an Integra GSR which I always thought was a fun handling and powerful 4cyl. but then I drove the S2000. There not even in the same league. The S2000 has so little body roll, as one said, its on rails. And I haven't priced an M3 lately but I don't imagine you can get one for the price of an S2000. Besides the M3 looks like all other Beeemers, the S2000 has it beat hands down in the looks department.

If you're talking late 90's M3s, I've run with one, and the S2K is in the same league, if not better. The M3 is probably quicker off the line, but up to 115, the M3 did not pull on me. Handling is all S2K. The M3 driver drooled when he drove the S2K. When I drove the M3, all it had over the S2K is low end grunt. You'll have to get the new M3 to beat the S2K hands down.

But remember faster doesn't always mean funner.
