The dipstick enters the oil pan at an angle, so go by the lower of the two marks.

That aside, anything in range is fine.

F20's seem to use more then f22, especially the 00-01. Higher revving, different piston design with looser tolerances and shorter less supportive valve guides all equate to more usage over time. Best rule of thumb is to check your oil level with every fill up, or at least until you figure out how much your engine uses. If you go on long trips with sustained higher revs in the 4.5-5k rpm range you will use more oil, especially if you have a pre mid 02 year which doesnt have the upgraded oil squirter banjo bolts. I prefer to stay away from those year engines all together. If you vtec a lot your oil usage will go up as well so keep that in mind. Honda says 1Q for every 1000 miles is the max ok threshold for these engines, which is a lot of oil. Most dont have that kind of consumption without an issue though. The couple f22 I have run in my car didnt use a drop within a 3k mile oil change interval.

That's a good way to remember to check it frequently but isn't it better to check it when it's not hot?

No, its just circulated throughout the motor so its going to read slightly lower then cold, about one x mark on the dipstick in my experience. If its at the top of the full mark hot, its good, no issue. If its slightly under then you know its fine as well. When its a couple x under hot then that's when I start feeling anal and want to top it off.
