S2000 engine built like NSX?
Body
[A/H] The body of the NSX is made out of 3 different kinds of "exotic" (to the auto industry) aluminum: The cosmetic outer panels are made of a 6083 T4. The temper comes from the heat dry paint process cooling slowly. The frame is a 5182, and the side sill (rocker) is an extruded 6061 T6. The suspension pieces are forged 6061 T6, the wheels are forged, I don't know the recipe.
The dies used to put the shape in the hood have to be polished every few stampings just to keep them clean so the aluminum does not gall, grab or stick to the die. Same is true for the fenders, doors, etc. You drive a car that may be more exotic than you think.
[FG] There are two small 2" square steel rub plates under the front bumper. The 95+ bumper beams are also Aluminum (mainly to make up for the added weight on the T's). However, it seems that the coupes also got some of the same reinforcements as the T (like the rear strut tie bar and I think the thicker door sills). According to an Autoweek 12-7-92 article on the R, the "front fender reinforcement structure" is alum for the R saving 19.4 lbs over the standard model. The R bumper beams are alum also instead of steel. I recall the stock strut support being steel, the C-tech unit is about

Are you suggesting that a JDM NSX weighs less?
Care to provide some proof?

All I know is that S2000 engines are (or were, rather) shipped to Tochigi fully assembled, ready to go into the cars. We never did find out how, where or by who the engines get assembled.

3153lbs
From Honda Japan website:
Weights for the NSX, NSX-T, and NSX-S vary from 1320kg (2910lbs) to 1410kg (3110lbs) for 6sp versions.
NSX-R ranges from 1270kg (2800lbs) to 1300kg (2870lbs).
The standard version is slightly lighter in Japan, but the US market doesn't get any of the lighter Type-S or Type-R versions, hugely due to Honda thinking those lighter versions will not sell in the US market where comfort and GT qualities are more valued over all-out performance.
According to Honda, the S2000 engine is assembled completly by hand by a single technician. (i want to say this was quoted in the book "honda S2000"
The S2000 is also built by hand just as much as the NSX is. After all, for the first 4 years of it's production, the S2k was built in the same exact factory as the NSX. There were even pics of S2k's right next to NSX's mid production.
However, neither the NSX OR S2k is made in the tochigi plant anymore. Production of both those cars was moved to I believe the suzuka plant.
