Default S2000 Engines

I have heard that the 2000 S2000 has a faster 0-60 than the 2001 + models. Two different sources have told me this and I am wondering whether it is true. 2000-2003 all supposedly have the same engine, right? I will be rebuilding an s2000 and have the choice of putting the following engines in it:

a stock 2000 engine with 55000 miles (but was raced--still stock though)
a stock 2001 engine with 13000 miles

Which would you reccommend? Is there a difference in the engines?

Would greatly appreciate any advice you can provide.

seems like a no brainer to me, the 2001 has a lot less miles and they are not racing miles, aka high rpms for prolonged periods of time.

The engines are exactly the same for those 2 years as far as I know.

Get the: 2001 engine with 13000 miles

The s2000 ages like a fine wine.

a stock 00 S2000 shouldn't be any faster than a stock 01,02,03,04,05 S2000.

you may get a slight variation in hp between cars, but otherwise they are no different. even though the 04-05 got a diff engine with a bit more torque, they really aren't any faster.

so get any year that you are comfortable with, cuz they're all the same speed.

I thought the jury was still out, on whether or not the 04 and 05 cars had a little more than the 240 bhp stated when launched. I've heard reports of stock s2000's on rolling roads averaging around 245 bhp ????????
I have no evidence of this though!

Heh. The only thing the jury is still out on is whether the difference is because the 2.2L engine has higher peak power, or because the carbon fiber synchro cones give the '04-'05 models a drive train gain in place of the former drive train loss.
