is the s2000 fragile?
Its easy to find well-cared for used sports cars, but some S2000s are going on 10 years old now - they're going to show some age. The sweet spot for any car, sports car or not, is 1-5 years old if buying used.
i would rather buy a used s2000 than a used sti or evo. my father didnt want me buying a used s2000 just because of the fact that we didnt know the previous owner and their driving habits and we decided to purchase a new one.
There are some bits of the S2000 that are fragile, yes - but not anything you would ever notice during a test drive. For example, valve retainers could be on their way out, but it's impossible to tell without pulling the valve cover. The diff could be one high-rpm launch away from exploding, but based on my reading it doesn't give any warning signs, it just goes all at once.
That said, the S2000 is VERY SENSITIVE to alignment and tires. If the tires are not inflated properly, or the wrong sizes, or are very worn, or are old, the car can feel very strange. If the alignment is whacked, the car can feel very strange.
Also, if you're not used to a RWD car with a Torsen LSD, it can feel very strange even if anything is in perfect working order.

I wouldn't buy a used performance car. even if the car did get all services, you still have no idea how the previous owner drove the car. If you can not afford a new one, try to get one with very low miles...under 5k miles.I know quite a few people who bought new, removed OEM wheels, seats and pads and put 5K track miles on the car over a 3 year period and then put all the OEM parts back on and sold the car as a "garage queen". Just cracks me up.
There was one that was even FI and then returned to NA... lol
either way.
