Yeah I believe if you go higher than 5000k, you're actually getting less light intensity. It makes no sense to get 8000k or higher, thats just for show. And
correct me if i'm wrong but stock S2000 bulbs are 4300k also.
the stock hid bulb in the S is perfect for the car...they provide a lot of visibility on the road....I swapped mine out on my old S for 10,000k...they looked cool as h@ll and since I live in the city I didn't mind the loss of quality visibility, but you def loose a good amount
The s2k does have a fantastic setup but i do miss the bi-xenon and adaptive setup i had in the BMW. BUt as has been mentioned before, the lo beam in the s2k is by far the best i've ever seen.
When driving at night i can usually tell the car by the headlights and i would always get confused on the s2k b/c the lights sat so low to the ground yet so bright...
I'm still getting used to that notch setup in the light setup. Not sure i quite like that - might have to re-level the lights myself...
speaking of flashlight, any advice on a great one that's rechargeable, good output and life and not too expensive?
Streamlight make the best rechargables in the business. For large size I would recommend an Ultrastinger (about the size of a 3D Mag but skinnier and way brighter)
Small size I recommend Streamlight Strion
I use Surefires because they are the best if you don't have heavy usage needs. I keep an L2 in my car 20hrs on low 1hr on high 5 watt LED, on my keychain there is a custom milled 3w led on a custom rechargable battery, this thing is about as bright as a 2-3D mag and is the size of a chapstick a little shorter a little fatter. My most used light. Unfortunately that blazing brightness only lasts for 15mins, but it has a low setting that runs for 8hrs and is perfect for close up work.
i consider myself to be a hid specialist. been in love with the technology since i first saw it on a lincoln mark 8.
technically speaking, the s2000 projector is the most efficient optic set up made by any company. if you look at the glass lens and compare it to other lenses, you'll see the others are as cloudy as bad diamonds. the ls430 has the widest light output, but the S2000 has the most intense output directly in front of the car. imo, you dont need adaptive headlights if you have a light beam as perfect as ours.

uh details, was this from a wreck or just malfunction
Nope. Bone stock. 2001 with 11K mile on it. The passenger headlight just went out. Honda said it was bulb and ballast. It cost me exactly $857.00 out the door. The guy at American Honda (I tried to get some help under "Goodwill") said in exact words..."our cars are meant to be driven and its not good for electrical components to sit idle" in response to me mentioning the low mileage and low use of the headlights. Buwahahahaha-what an asshat!
Good lighting system though...just very costly.
only problem i have with the hid's in the s is the line above the cutoff is pitch black. the passenger side isn't bad, the driver's side is the one i have the problem with. it's like the beam on the driver's side shining on the road stops WAYY before the pass beam.
I consider the S2000 HIDs to be a spectacular blunder of engineering, if their purpose is to provide effective illumination for driving anywhere but on some closed test track in Japan.
I can't drive my S2000 in the dark on the highway, period.
The drivers of other cars can't handle the sharp cutoff flashing effect as the car bounces along the imperfect pavement (stock suspension).
I've adjusted my headlights down to the point where I can barely see *anything* and I still end up having people slam on their brakes and pull over like I'm a police car, even at overtaking speeds of 5mph! Either that or they go berserk.
Attempts to go slow in the rightmost lane result in slowing down all the other traffic, cars pass, then slow down to a crawl when they see the flashing lights. It's absurd. People will never become accustomed to these lights because there just aren't enough S2000s around, or cars with similar HIDs. I've only seen two S2000s coming up behind me at night, and even suspecting they were the lights of a sports car, I still slowed down to see what car had the freaky flashing blue headlights, and they annoyed the hell out of me.
So the lights are wonderful, as long as you don't drive in traffic, or the roads are perfectly smooth so as not to bounce them, but that's not even close to reality. It's an engineering blunder. This isn't to say, of course, thay that aren't "cool", just unusable.
