Default S2000 hit by dump truck

Sitting at light in my '06 S2000 bought new by me and now with 40,800 miles.
Woman driving dump truck starts inching forward while light is still red.
We bail out screaming to stop.
She says she forgot we were there and couldn't see us anyway.

That just absolutely blows. That reminds me of when a truck backed over my motorcycle with me on it to "give a bus more space to get by". He said he didn't see me and the bike. I yelled, beeped, and waved my arms at his side view mirror until I realized he wouldnt stop. I tried to creep and walk backwards as fast as I could with the bike until he smashed into me with me still on it and then proceeded to crumple it as I fell over and had to roll away.
There's never an excuse to be unaware of your surroundings as a vehicle operator.
Make sure you call her company to complain big time. My motorcycle cost was covered but it's not like you can just buy a new S2000 again.
Sorry OP.

That sort of thing should cost them their license. Only going to get more frequent with the ridiculous hood heights on new trucks and suvs.

Cars are weapons and people do not think about the damage they can cause/the caution that means they should exercise.

At least you are ok. Did the quarter panels get damaged? If not I think she can be sorted out without much trouble.

Passenger quarter is good. Driver's side got caught but only at the rear corner.
As it was happening I felt outrage rather than fear. Afterwards I realized that if the light had turned green before we got out it could have gotten ugly.

Shouldn't it be standard practice with driving oversize vehicle that you make sure you can see the vehicle in front when pulling up to a light?

I find it infuriating how close everyone both drives behind and pulls up behind the next vehicle.

I fear for the future version of this scenario with a motorcycle, and an electric (silent) truck.

A picture from the truck's drivers seat at the woman driver's height would speak volumes to her negligence.

Good luck, keep us informed. Don't forget the loss in value because of the repairs even if they are done to your satisfaction.

Good question and I do not know what lurks under that truck's hood preventing a lower hoodlike... or is it just "aggressive" aesthetics?

Glad the OP is OK. My similar hit was 20 years ago, in a Miata at dawn, I was doing 55 on the highway and the truck doing a few MPH more, pushed me along for 1/4 mile or so. Afterwards said " I did not see you there". Looks like similar damage.

And, hmm, in today's "no one can find enough truck drivers" environment, are we seeing hires of less skilled/experienced/attentive drivers? I honestly do not know.

When I taught my kids to drive, I taught them that they should see both rear tires of the car in front of them when stopped at a light. This ensures that they are far enough back from them in case they roll back a little on a hill when starting forward but also gives enough room that should they see something coming in their rearview they should have enough room to get around the car in front of them. Big trucks like this should have some type of similar rule of thumb like see the brakelights of the car in front or something like that. So sad to see this post and I feel for you. It's what I'm always concerned over - some other idiot not paying attn or texting while driving etc causing damage to my car. My head is on a swivel when driving looking for these idiots running stop signs/stoplights, moving out of their lane on the highway, people drifting over yellow line coming the other way and so on. I would be furious as well - especially since you were legally stopped as was everyone else and it's this person's negligence causing damage to your car. Get a lawyer - I speak from experience.

Glad you're ok. Anyone with a goldfish-level memory who "forgets" about the car they stopped behind at the lights need to get the feck off the roads.
