The price is really more like this:

S2000 = $30,000

Elise = $45,000 to $55,000

Plus a 1 year wait.

Dude, calm down! Is that some sort of Pavlovian response to the word "miata"?

All he did was comment that there was a flaw in your logic and offer an example to support himself. In fact, what he said made perfect sense. You might disagree, but that doesn't discount his opinion. He didn't "disrespect or slander" your name in any way at all.

Now, you want to talk about disrespect, take another look at your response.

If I had the choice, I would go with the Elise. It's even more exclusive than the S2000, handles better, accelerates better, and is all-around more fun to drive. The Toyota 2ZZ-GE is a kick-ass engine that has lots of modding potential. I'm an old man but don't look for luxury amenities in my sports car.

fine. i accept that i was a bit harsh with carlson. however, i felt disrespected and found it appropriate to rebuke the man. from my point of view carlson reduced my very appropriate post into a worthless opinion, and that is not worthy of my respect. no where is there a mention of the 'perfect sense' that my original post contained. you can bend things around however you want but at least i started with an original thought and not by downtalking someone elses opinion. i tried to survey the needs of the person asking for help and answer as informatively as i could have. that said i have no intention of continuing to feed this argument as i am not usually a man who holds onto frustration. i hope that we can all be friends. we wouldn't be here posting if we didn't all have a shared love of cars.. i am game to share our knowledge and opinions and hopefully apply them towards more rewarding endeavours.

p.s. sorry for calling you a jackass carson, i'm just having one of those days. it was uncalled for.

Thank you, glad I am not the only one that thinks it is ugly as hell. There is no way I would pay 40k+ for it.

Well gentlemen......I have decided to get the Lotus Elise and I'll tell you why.
I took the S2000 out today for a test drive and I have to say that it is only slightly less raw than the Elise. It is just as loud and believe it or not they both have a similar ride-both pretty firm. I thought the S2000 would have been a little softer. I should menton that I drove the Elise with the standard suspension and not the sport suspension. Both cars have very loud and obtrusive engine noise(which I really love), and both cars are not very practical. So I have decided to keep my STI for my daily driver and go with the Elise for having fun with on the track, autocrossing and carving up the twisties. My STI actually felt faster than the S2000.
Sure it will mean going into a little debt, but life is short and I always must remember that song "we're here for a good time, not a long time, so have a good time". All the magazines are correct when they say that there is nothing out there that can compete with the Elise in terms of speed and handling, and I know from experience.
To tell you the truth, after driving the Radical SR3 track car I was so blown away from the experience that I almost picked one up, however common sense prevailed and I just could not justify buying a $60,000 car that I can only drive on the racetrack, even though it is hands down, the ultimate track car......period. That is where the Elise comes in. Sure it is not nearly as extreme as the Radical, it is the next best thing for the track that you can actually drive to and from and not have to trailer.
For those of you who love speed and are adrenalin junkies I suggest you try and either rent or get a hot lap in a Radical SR3 track car. I will never forget that experience....more extreme than any roller coaster in my book. And if you get a chance give the Elise a go, you might like it.
Cheers

Maverick,

Best of luck with your purchase.

If I were looking today, I think I'd still buy the S, but the Elise is even more purpose-built than the S.

Post some pictures when you get it.

BTW, what is the Radical? Is that a track-only version of the Elise? I haven't heard anything about that. Do you have pix?
