S2000 & MGB, similar? anyone owned both?
This is kind of just a random thought, but I was reading and it seems a few other S2K owners have had MGBs. Long before, well long for me, I owned my MY00 S2K I had, and still have in pieces, my 1969 MGB and the first thing I noticed was how similar they are. The shifter is just about the same feel, and in the same spot, leg room is very similar, as in dash board, very plain with a few controls. I know their differences, but to me it was very interesting to go between the two cars dirrectly, because they are so many regards have a similar feel. Well that is about it, just wanted to get some thoughs about that.
wow... yes... isn't that a longshot???...
I had a B, years ago... the things I remember the most are:
1. I could run up the trunk/backside and jump in the seat (wouldn't do that now)...
2. If I didn't sync the carbs on the B, at least every other weekend, the car would let me know...
3. It was a blast to drive, kind if similar to the sideways ways I get with the S... but then neither one was as fun going sideways as the '67 Plymouth with the 426 Hemi...
4. Both the B and the S were/are white with a black vert top...
Thanks for the memories...*G*

r,
i had a 67 austin healy 3000 as well as a 71 mgbgt. both were fun and sporty but they couldn't compare to the s2000. i bought a couple of months ago. i purchased a 2003 my with 8k miles. it's quick, a terrific drive on twisty roads and very hard on tires. i would be interested in anyone providing front end alignment specs as the front tires both wear more significantly on the insides. it is used for "normal" driving, no track driving. thank you and i think this is a terrific site! incidentally my wife was british and i spent seven (7) years in norfolk county england, hence the interest in the brit cars.
I had a '60 MGA (see below). What I find interesting is the simular proportions - longish hood, short rear deck. And the simularities in cockpit sparseness. There were no fancy niceities at all.
A radio, tach, speedo, oil, temp & fuel gauges.

I actually purchased my S2000 to replace my 1977 MGB Roadster.I got the B in 1981 and she's sitting tucked up in a garage 'resting' after a long and enjoyable life (95000miles) I think the only comparisons between the 2 cars are the fact they are both 2 seater roadsters. The S is far superior all round ,but then we are comparing a 1963 design to 1998 cutting edge performance.

We had an MBG back in New York, when I was a kid.
The only thing I really remember about it was how we had to hit curbs to get it to STOP!!!
Don't think I'll be doing that in the S - voluntarily!

My first car was a 67 MGB Roadster. It's the one car I still miss on occasion.
The two are similar in the no frills aproach to driving pleasure, and both are "drivers cars". They provide immediate feedback and let oyu know what the car is doing at all times.
That being said, the S2000 has 40+ years of technology and refinement.
In modern terms the Miata (especially in it's first release) is a much closer match. The performance of the S2000 is far and away beyond what you could imagine even the MGB V-8 could provide.
