Why is it that the S2000 recieves almost no increase in power from bolt on mods and an Rsx-S can get 15hp from a AEM CAI ? or 12-15 hp from a header, or full exhaust. I mean the only way you can get power outta the car at least significant power is to put on a SC or Turbo. I know the car is already really well tuned and all but if you just want performance why not buy a RSX-s and get header exhaust intake, cam, vafc and a tune it and it will be even or beat an S2000 with the bolt ons, now dont get me wrong I love my S and would not trade it for anything but wish I could get a little extra power out of it without going all out on a SC or Turbo. 20-30 hp more would be nice.

well, the majority of the people that buy s2k's don't really buy them for straight line speed, it's the exotic look and the handling that gets to them. the k20a engine is very restrictive from the factory.. imo.. it's one of the best engines honda has ever produced though. they should think about throwing that thing in the s2k

I was considering gears but Dont want my RPM's to be on the virge of VTEC in 6th on the hwy, I also realize that the S is not a straight line car and thats not why I bought the car to begin with but I would like a bit more power on tap without shelling out 5000+ for a SC and install. I also thought of going the Nitrous route but some weird voice in my head keeps tellin me to steer clear of that. Dont think thats what Im looking for. 4.77's may be a future mod for me just not ready to do it at the moment.

So it looks like your info on the mod potential of the is wrong....I just checked out clubRSX.com to look at their dynos....most I+E are almost the same as just Intake alone.

The best type S listed is in the low 190s and he's got the following....

Performance Modifications
AEM V2
Hondata ECU Reprogram #4
Jackson Race Header
Injen SES Exhaust
Nology Hot Wires

So my stock MY04 is still 15-20HP greater than your heavily modded RSX-S. Add an intake on the MY04 and it can put out 218.6rwhp. Add a V-AFC or E-manage and I feel that 225+ is doable. Single exhaust may add a few more hp. Header is a wash.

^ then take into account that the S is a drop top and has a better shifter. Oh, and outhandles the rsx.

I think what he is trying to say is that 4.77 gears feel like a 30 hp gain.

The RSX has the same displacement as the F20C, and redlines at - what? - about 8K? The F20C redlines at 9K, but makes peak power at 8300, which is pretty close to the RSX redline. Even though the engines are fairly similar in these regards, the F20C makes 40hp more than the RSX straight off the showroom floor. So, it's reasonable to think that the RSX should be able to get pretty close to 240hp without too much work. (Granted, these are two distinctly different motors, but I'm sure there are enough similarities to make this comparison valid).

As for mods... the CAI on an RSX may make 15hp, but a CAI on an S2000 will still make a good 6-9hp. A header won't do much for either car, I expect. And an exhaust probably will only make a few ponies on the RSX, but converting from dual to a good single on the S2000 (which is what really makes sense on an inline 4-cylinder engine), will net you 6-15hp.

My expectation is this: If you max out both the K20 and the F20C with all of the bolt-on NA goodies, you'll probably end up with similar power output between the two (although the K20 will have made more "progress", since it started at a lower baseline). The RSX, however, might be slightly faster at that point due to its slightly lower weight and its better aerodynamics. But in the end... it's still just an RSX.

Wow, I would still be kinda upset if my maxed out roadster was slower than the maxed out rsx. Even if the roadster was not made for straight line speed.

You don't get 15hp from CAI with a RSX-s maybe 15 to the crank but not 15 to the wheels, and plus the s2000 is already getting 240hp out of a motor the same size as the RSX.
