Default S2000 MY00 questions

Hey guys, I have a few questions about the MY00, I don't know if it has been posted here before, I couldn't find it.

-How different is it when it comes to the rest of the AP1 models (MY01,MY02,MyY03) ? I know they added a clock for the MY02 i believe and added the glass rear window.

-Is it less reliable than other models ?

-Is it possible to replace interior and exterior parts, including the plastic rear window or do i need to replace the whole roof ?

-Is it slower ?

-I heard something about banjo bolts but I still don't understand that.

Any input would be appreciated.

It's not radically different, the differences you mentioned are about it. The banjo bolts are another. There is clutch buzz but that's just a noise, not a reliability issue.

No

You can upgrade to most AP2 exterior, interior parts without any additional work. As for getting a roof with a glass window you will need to get a glass window softop with the frame to be able to just bolt it in. The plastic rear window means the frame is slightly different on the 00-01 models. Or you could get an aftermarket top like a robbins or the EZ with everything needed to convert. I haven't heard of people sowing in the glass rear window.

-Is it slower ?

Stock vs Stock I don't think you'll notice a difference vs the AP2. The AP2 gained some torque but also gained a bit of weight and lost 1,000 rpms of VTEC.

The oil banjo bolts were upgraded in 2002+ models. They are also known as oil sprayers. They went from 2 to 4 squirters in the later models. Many people have left them alone and not had any issues. I would recommend upgrading them if you are tracking the car, boosted or do lots of high rpm highway driving.

I have a MY00 with 145K miles. It's been extremely reliable and has never left me stranded. At 135k, I replace the Radiator due to cracks, replace the Original Clutch, and at 145K, my secondary Air Pump(The emission one) is making all types of retarded noise, so I'm going to replace that eventually. As long as you watch your oil levels, you should be fine. I honestly think my motor can make it to 300k and beyond.

I had a MY04 prior to my current, and honestly the power feels the same. I will say that the after 8400 Rpms on the AP1, it feels like its loosing steam. But It looks cool I guess

Thanks for your replies, I guess is not so bad having a 00 model as long as it has been well maintained.... for some reason I thought it was worse, like it was an inferior car.

The clock first showed up in 2001.

The MY2000-01 is the second lightest S2000 to the CR with AC/Radio delete option. You can interchange most parts with other years. I'm pretty sure the sway/stabilizer bars are the stiffest. The S2000 has been a hobby of mine since I purchased one in 2000; no, the first year is not sub-par to other year S2000s. Also, contrary to popular myth, not all early year S2000s burn oil.
