Default S2000 myths debunked

a small caveat this applies only to 2006 +

1. no torque - had a stop light grandprix with a late model escalade once, shifted at 5,500 rpm, by 4th i was about 2 car lengths ahead. slowed down and he came flying by at full v8 throated throttle.

2. no traction- has more traction that any 2 wheel drive car i have ever owned including an e46 m3 ( last generation). all the things that give it superior traction are listed below

- 53% (with driver) weight distribution in the back, for an fr car that is what u want and as good as it gets, name any other fr car with that kind of weight distribution ( a z is 53% in front, m3's are 51% front and corvettes are about 52% front)

- limited slip differential, had an accord and a tl, i assure u an open differential = plenty of unnecessary wheelspin

- traction control and VSA- speaks for itself

- tractable and managable low end torque - wont overwhelm the tires. with snow tires it has better traction than 90% of non awd cars out there in the winter

don't forget lightweight-at 2800lbs it doesnt not have that much weight to lug around , so it doesn't need that much traction to get moving versus say a 3400lbs 370z

... now where did i put my flame retardant suit

Agreed on the torque argument - it'll accelerate quickly in any gear from about 2k rpm.

Can't say I agree with the debunked torque argument. I had a hard time keeping up with my HPDE instructor who was driving a late 90's model Porsche. He kept pulling away in the straights following a turn. I found it to be quite frustrating.

That could be for lots of reasons besides the torque. Its powerband is unique and needs to be in the right place to get acceleration out of the corner. Although it isn't a 350z in terms of torque, if you get the gearing right you should have no issues keeping up.

The car has no torque. Get over it. If you don't believe me, hit the track on a regular basis like I do and it will become abundantly clear.

The good news is that if you're using the car for its intended purpose, you don't need any torque.... unless you're trying to break into a GT bracket. It's a momentum car. Enjoy it.
