There are a lot of nice lookers under 40k, beauty is in the eye of the beholder 
Personally I think the nicest looking car under 40k right now is the 993. If I had to choose something that you can buy brand new though the S2000 would be near the top of my list, for sure.

i LOVE the styling of the z4.. so aggressive and manly looking..

my 04 is my second s2000, and i still like the look. i would buy a 3rd one if it was not a honda. the "ownership" is just not up to par. I don't like being treated like base civic owner when i bring my car in for service at a dealership.

The problem with the Z4, is its designed to look good, its like they sent it to a Chrysler design team, and said "Spruce it up"
So it has all these exterior features that scream "look at me". That is VERY un-BMW like.
