Default S2000 Owner Considering '03 Boxster S

Hi All,

I have had my S/B S2000 for just over 2 years now and love it. However, I went to the local Europa Imports and test drove a 911, NSX, and 03 Boxster S.

I had originally test driven a regular Boxster, Audi TT, and S2000 back in '01. The S2000 won hands down.

My impressions from the test driving of the Boxster S is all the power is down low on the Boxster S and the power curve is easy to hit unlike the S2000 which requires me to keep in above 6k. Not that I mind doing that

The performance seems identical to me. I am not going to speculate which is faster because I believe that would depend on the driver on cars of such similar performance.

I do really like the interior of the Boxster S though. The new Bose Surround sound system, the navigational system, the digital radio, and the layout and controls inside. I am not quite sure about having both the analog and digital gauges. Personally I would have preferred analog only or digital only.

I had previously said that I felt like the Boxster S was a 30,000 car with a 20, 000 dollar embelem on it. After driving the S, I am thinking it is a 40, 000 dollar car with a 10, 000 dollar embelem.

I was hoping to get some feedback here from others who have driven both and especially the '03 Boxster which has some nice refinements.

I also have the local dealer for the Porsche who keeps calling me back with lower prices as my understanding is Boxster sales have been down the last two years.

No Flaming please! I love my S2000 and have had a great time but I am just wondering if the Boxster is worth the extra bucks.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Thanks!

The ONE thing that keeps me from getting a Boxster S: Porshe cannot put together a tight gearbox like Honda does.

I don't know why.

Otherwise, Boxster S is one nice car.

Saud2k,

If I do purchase the Boxster S, it would be a replacement for my weekend fun car. I have a old 93 integra which I use as a beater to commute back and forth to work to.

As for test driving the 911 and NSX, well that was just for fun

Let me put things in perspective, the 911 was a '99 and the NSX was also a '99. I was really dissapointed in the 911. It did have 50k miles but it was not very fast. Well not ungodly fast. You really need to get a '02 or '03 911 or the turbo, or GT2 for that. I really think I could take a '99 911 if I got a good jump. I am sure that car is faster by numbers. I know it is 296hp but it didn't feel that quick. The NSX *felt* much quicker but when I looked down at the speedometer, I was not going as fast as it felt. The NSX definetly outperformed the 99 911 without a doubt though. The NSX was loud and I did have the hard top off. It felt a lot like driving a vette in the way it handled and took off.

My decision now is whether to go to the Boxster or keep my S2000. It is still a tough decision.

I have heard this from people and I see your point but it did feel comfortable to me driving. The S2000 definetly has the tightest gearbox in the business. It also may be one of those things that doesn't seem to bother me on a test drive but then would bother me when I start driving it all weekend long.

I prefer the Boxster "S" to my S2000. Problem is I don't prefer it to the tune tune of $20k more. Maybe $5k more $7.5k max.

If you have to shell out 20K difference, I suggest saving 15K and use 5K to get comtech SC. That would make the S2000 a "little" more attractive.

On the other hand (I'm not flamming here) most people are impressed with Porsche compared to Honda so if that is what float your boat...
