S2000, the perfect car
gomifume
Welcome and enjoy. Yes, you made the right choice. The others are fine cars, but none of them come close. The S is the most enjoyable, exciting car I have ever owned. As you are finding out it is quite a car.
Break it in properly, no cheating on Vtec til 600 miles. Check your oil often, at least every fill up. When all is said and done, its a Honda and that says a lot.
You might want to check out the Clubs forum and sign up for the Metro NYC owners group. There is a meet coming on March 16. I can't make it but you might want to just to meet some of the guys.
By the way, I'm in Randolph, NJ (Morris County) which is real close to you. I'm looking forward to meeting you at a meet sometime later in the Spring.
In the mean time......ENJOY!

Hey everyone, thanks for all of the support. I know I have said this on other posts, buy you are all great. It makes me feel like I picked the right car and the right community of enthusiasts to be a part of. I look forward to the many enjoyable years to come.
Congrats gomifune! This car is definitely NOT for everyone. Seems to me you connected with the car and discovered it's addicting little secret
. I too was in a similar boat. I was dead set on getting a Z3, decided to take the S2000 out for a test drive just to check it out...that was the end. I loved it and had to have one

I remember my first 600 miles, even then I thought it was worth the money and way better than my WRX was. Then I hit 9k, it's so worth it. I'm totally keeping this car until it dies a slow death.

1) the link argues that gas pressure from the combustion seals the piston rings
2) it says that higher rpms will wear in the ring better
3) it says that you only have about 20 miles to wear in the rings before the abrasive surface runs away
as for #1 and #2, engine compression should be the same no matter what the rpm. rpm changes the # of times there is compression, not the compression itself
for #3, if the abrasive surface on the inside of the piston rubs away after 20 miles w/ regular use, how fast does it wear away with higher than normal use? faster than normal i would think...
that said, i tend to agree with the philosiphy of a hard break in
also, feel free to correct me if you think im wrong, god knows im not a mechanic
