Default S2000 racing?

Every now and then I stumble upon a race on speed tv, that includes all types of cars. The cars range anywhere from minicoopers, tsx's, bmw 3 series, rx8's, civics and even chevy cobolts. But I cant recall ever seeing an S2000 in a true race. Why is that?

I believe part of the reason S2000's don't race in professional series is because they wouldn't be competitive in their class. Since they are 2 seaters they would be classed against cars much more capable with high HP that would leave them in the dust.

Lots of S2000 participate in "club racing." It's "true" racing but without the huge budgets of professional racing by large sponsors.

The great thing about the Miata is the Spec Miata series.

You realize that often times those races on speed have more than one class on the track at the same time... They're racing within their classes.

I was at Road America for the June Sprints this year and there were a few S2000s racing. One of them won its class but I don't remember what class it was.

There are a few people here who race their S2000 regularly, but for most it makes more sense to race something from a company that actually supports their level of racing. For most this means something like a Spec Miata. I think we'd see more S2000's racing if Honda supported a racing series the way Mazda does, but Honda seems to prefer spending their racing dollars in F1.

It's hard to be successful on the track when the company that builds your car doesn't provide *any* support.

Sounds like you're talking about the Grand Am KONI Challenge series. From what I recall, several people have approached Grand Am about campaigning an S2000. First they were told No because it'd bee too slow. Then when showed laptimes proving it'd be competitive, they were told No because it'd be too fast (or were given rule specs that would make it uncompetitive.) The theory was something like that Grand Am was getting lots of money from Mazda and none from Honda so didn't want the competition.

Not sure what the story is these days - there are several Hondas in the series. HART's even running a couple cars - a Civic SI and an Accord. There's a handful of TSX's also. Not sure why Honda would want to promote THAT as their race car. Maybe it's just some factory guys out for some fun.

Convertible isn't an issue - there are Miatas and Z4s, after all (and no hardtop on the BMW's, actually - just an open roll cage. Huh.)

Regarding other series - the S2000 doesn't fit the SPEED Challenge ST rules, isn't powerful enough for the GT rules. Similar reasons for anything else out there - except for SCCA T3 club racing which isn't televised except for the annual runoffs. I hope the CR does well this year! (Assuming its legal, being so new.)
