I cracked mine trying to remove button to swap. Thought I was being so careful.

Had the window guy replace it on the new windshield. Magic touch, made it look easy.

The button glues to windshield. There is indeed a black square 'sticker' on outside of windshield where button goes. The same stuff that makes up all those little black dots that line the edges of windshield. The button glues to center that black area.

Everything mirror related is on outside of glass.

All windshields use a laminated construction. Glass inner and outer layers, middle layer is a thin, clear plastic material that keeps glass from turning into deadly shards in an accident.

Thanks for the information, sorry about the cracked windshield experience--exactly why I'm asking the question. The YouTube video using a lighter makes it seem easy (
)! But with my luck nothing is as easy as it seems. I am still investigation 'methods' to remove the windshield mirror button, heat, chemicals, string, a business, etc. My first choice is a local business, but the most trusted business won't touch the removal, but I still have a few other glass repair businesses to call. My son 'de-bags' his car all the time using a string method. I have seen/heard somewhere about using finger nail removal, not too sure about that though. Basically I'll go through the list of glass repair businesses and then try something else.
Again, Thanks for the help.

When the windshield pro replaced button on my new windshield, he used a lighter. Perhaps more importantly, he did with windshield on a stand, before it was installed. It was in button up position, which meant heat tended to rise away from glass, rather than into glass like it will when you attempt this with glass in place.

To my mind, controlling heat into glass is the key, along with limiting heat source.

So wondering if using some sort of heat sink would help. Like taking a large towel, and soaking it in water, and propping in place outside on windshield.

I would definitely NOT use cold water. Don't want to create large difference in temps. Use room temp water. Like maybe leave a bucket of water next to car for several hours, so its same temp as windshield.

The button that comes on aftermarket windshields are slightly different from the OE windshield, resulting in loose mirrors.

I found that my Zoom mirror with the S2000 specific mount actually fit the aftermarket windshield button well and don't have issue with the mirror falling off anymore.

Hi,
What is a Zoom mirror? Do you have a link to exactly what you bought? My dealer won't even tell me if there are any non-S2000 Honda OEM mirrors that fit will my S2000! I cannot find any mirror, except the original OEM, that says it will fit my car, that I believe. The China mirrors for auction on eBay say their mirrors basically fit everything which I don't believe.
Thanks in advance for the help.
