Default S2000 Replacement Key NOT from Dealer

Hello all, I've been a long time member on s2ki. Owned a MY01 SSM S2K back in 2009-2010. Sold it for practical reasons. Now I'm back in the game after wanting another one, with a MY03 BB S2K!

So the one I picked up only came with 1 key. I've been doing some research from google and s2ki, and there's not an exact answer I'm looking for.

Basically, what I wanted to ask was, when people had their keys programmed at Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware, etc., were they the original Honda keys that you've bought online and brought to there to program? I figured I'd ask here first before running around wasting time. I have already gone to one Home Depot and they would only cut and program their own keys that they sell. They wouldnt take the Honda Key that I ordered off eBay.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You cannot program a Honda key unless it's done at a Honda dealership.

I would try your local craigslist for key cutter/programmers.

Yeah, I read that too. Just couldnt figure out if it was the generic home depot keys or if it was an OEM Honda key.

Of course it would be generic, it would work but not look like a honda key - better then losing a key I have heard of guys ordering the ebay one and bringing it in

Definitely.

And that's what I'm trying to figure out, if whether people actually buy the OEM Hondas from eBay or wherever and just bring it in to Home Depot.

Buy one and bring it in - there are a few versions of the S2000 key - tell us what works and report back!

Do ap1 keys need to be programed? I thought only ap2's had the immobilizer. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

AP1 keys do have the immobilizer chip - they need to be programed.
