Default S2000 resale prices

I was just browsing autotrader today and noticed how much Intergra Type-R's were going for. A 2001 is still selling in the low $20's. I didn't think that these cars cost that much new. Weren't they less than $30,000 new? If so, then why are their resale values better than the S2000's? I thought that the S2000 was a "better" car in every sense.

We've discussed this at some length on the local "Prairie Redliners" forum. It seems that even here in Canada, S2000 resale values are very poor, at least when compared to other Honda products.

Having said that, weren't other "classic" roadsters of the 70s such as those made by MG, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo in the same predicament in their day? Perhaps our more "mature" brethren can enlighten us here. Ironic how such vehicles today have become extremly desireable by collectors.

Type R's are much rarer than an S2000. I think in their last year of production they only produced 700.

I was at an auto auction today, and on the block was an '03 Red S2K with 33 miles on it. Bidding started at $28,000. Nobody bid!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They lowered it to start at $26,000, and the car just sat there. It never sold!!!!!!!!! Are our cars that crappy in terms of resale value? I mean this car was brand spankin' new. ONLY 33 MILES!!!!!!!!!! What's up with that?

I don't think anyone is actually paying $20k+ for an ITR unless it has no miles on it. Lots of people paid waaaaaaaay over sticker for ITR's so now they are trying to recoup the $$$ in the used car market. Sticker was $24.5k, lots of people paid $26k or $27k so they probably still owe a bundle. I just don't think the market will bear that kind of pricing for a car with such limited appeal. Honda enthusiasts like to pretend that there were thousands of customers standing in line for ITR's, but let's face it, lots of dealers had unsold ITR's sitting around for an awful lylong time.

I think actual sale prices for '01 ITRs are probably in the $18k to $19k range. That is about what I was seeing when I looked at used '00 ITRs a year ago when I bought my RSX-S. Compared to a sticker of $25k, that's good resale but not exceptional.

I just bought an '01 S2k and the (NADA) book on it was $29.5k. Of course I didn't pay that much, but the resale was respectable. The S2k is not a Ferrari but it will probably have resale similar to a '92 to '96 300ZX- the car just has too much too offer to ever depreciate beyond a certain point.

Did you get to look at the car before it went on the block BB2k? I know at dealer auctions you can't drive the cars but you can usually look at them before it starts.

I don't think that it's the car as much as the economy. There are tons of Vettes sitting around. You can't give them away. Car sales have been pretty flat lately. When the weather warms up things could heat up a little.
Anyway I'm not planning on selling, so I'm not too worried. I guess now is a great time to buy.
