Default s2000 resale value

most of you know i got in an accident, hit and run. truthfully i dont want to sell my car, but parental conscent might force me too...(mothers conscent mainly). my mom feels the car is too small for me and she fears for my life. so 50-50 i might have to get rid of it.

my main question is, will the accident be on the car fax? i reported it to insurance and they covered the cost. the car was repaired 100% and i have pictures and documents for the check and other things.

its an 02 with 7xxx miles on it, so the value is around 25xxx. will i be able to get a reasonable value for the car in the 22xxx-25xxx$ range? truthfully i dont wan;t to sell the s2000, and if i have it may way ill sell it and just buy another 02 in a color i rather prefer...if mom gets her way, ill be in something bigger. i have no idea, i just need some advice from others on the board.

The accident won't show up on a CarFax unless it's reported to the DMV. Normally, you are responsible for doing that. I've been told that sometimes, your insurance agent will report it for you, but it's still technically your responsibility.

At least that's how it works in California... Not sure about other states.

Regarding price, I personally think it'd be tough to get $25k for a '02, regardless of whether it's had any accidents. That's fairly close to the price of a new one, the '05 model will be out soon, and I bought my '02 for just $27k over two years ago.

Hope things turn out well.

if there was a policere port and I think you said there was? Also I would assume if you report it to insruance it does that to. Your better of keeping it, since for me personally and most others would tend to def stay away from cars that have been in accidents. Otherwise the price would def be down substantially. Tell your parents you'll lose thousands which is true and that your better of keeping her!! I mean what are they gonna buy you thats safer a sentra?

^ Reporting it to insurance alone won't make it show up on a CarFax unless your insurance agent submits the accident involvement form (SR 1 here in California) for you.

It mostlikely won't show up on car fax.

Selling price all depends on your location.

it will most likely be on CARFAX...no you won't get $22-25K as pristine 2002's are fetching that price...and even so 25K will be a hard sell for a 2002. I'd expect $20K or less depending on how bad the accident was...

I believe the accident will show up on CarFax and other similar vehicle reports. I also wouldn't expect to get more than $20K for it. I think most buyers would shy away from a car like this that's been in an accident.

I bet you could get 22-25k for it. I think people on this board really underestimate what the S actually sells for with a little effort. Local sales around here are much more than the projected values given on this site. Why not just do a carfax yourself and see if it shows up? Then I would try to sell the car locally.
