Default S2000 Restomod: Would you "Singer" your S2000?

By now, Singer 911's are a well known standard of excellence in the Porsche crowd, if not the car world in general. Both the 911 and S2000 are pure driver's cars, appreciating in value for their analogue (or near analogue) simplicity, so there is a possible parallel there.

It got me thinking that while highly original s2000's are getting rarer, there's likely an opportunity for a company or shop to develop a luxurious and performance-oriented restomod business around the s2000 platform. As many cars approach 100k miles or more, they will become the subject of restoration efforts.

It could involve components like original-looking but larger, wider and lighter wheels, interiors crafted with higher quality materials, and improved mechanicals and performance. Seems like fruit that's ripe for the picking, if you ask me.

Since no one is doing it yet, what would your ideal "Singer" S2000 look like?

Dumb idea? Great idea?

I think a lot of us are doing our own version of this.

We're obviously not doing things to the same extent, not having half a million dollars to devote to it seems a big obstacle.

However, every part I put on my car is towards the goal of making the car what I believe is the most perfect form the car can take.

Dudes like Andrewhake, Luder94, etc., are 100% doing something special.

For me, my ideal "Singer" S2000 would look a lot like mine. Too low for performance purposes, wheels that are wide & have an offset lower than they should, dumb/non-functional aero, etc.

It would be louder than mine though. Mugen exhaust is just not for this guy.

That build thread by Andrewhake is epic. I hadn't seen it before tonight because I've been living under a rock, apparently.

I think one problem here is the vision of ultimate S in most current owners heads involves giant ass wings and questionable aero, and gawdy flares and rediculous wide wheels. Exhaust level that sets off car alarms everywhere it goes. Track refugee on the street.

Whereas the Singer 911 is more of a factory look on steroids. More street focused appearance. Sophisticated performance.

To make this idea of OP viable, the Singer S would need to appeal to a whole new buyer demographic.

Heads up, the Singer 911's are loud, have huge flares and run much wider wheels than OEM.

The 911 and s2000 are alike in some ways and very different in others with a different crowd attachment to them. The s2000 is a Japanese "tuner" car therefor individualized with a big aftermarket support, the 911 really isn't. That in nutshell is going to make a singer s2000 business pretty unsatisfying on a marketable scale for someone to undertake and invest in under my assessment, and ive thought of it after more then 15 years of modifying this platform in search for the perfect visual/performance balance with a street car you can also flog on the track. Most of us with the tuner/mod bug that have dedicated time and money to this platform have already built our own version of a singer and they are individualized, which is part of the charm. Its also taken us years to do this, because lets face it, most of us that gravitated to this car dont have "singer" money to drop on a single instance build, but rather its done over time/years and that's also part of the charm of the experience and building a bond/attachment to the car. So the closest thing I think we will get to a "singer" s2000 is a factory built CR.

But if I were to do it, I have a pretty good idea taken from both my past and present s2ks what I would offer because I feel it hits the right balance of performance and reliability. I suppose "stages" as optional could offer some broader interest, but that's a slippery slope, next your just a custom shop doing whatever build.

Loud, yet refined. Flared, yet classy. Wide wheels, yet dignified.

Its apples and zucchini comparing a modded S and a Singer.

Understated! Not loud and obnoxious.

I love the idea and love both, the aircooled porsches and the s2ks. Although the s2ks in mint condition are indeed growing rarer by the years I dont think it will hit a rarity that would evolve into the likes thereof Singer, RWB, Gunterwerks etc. If they did, then we would be in luck!!

Yes both of the cars are driver oriented but the 911 has grown throughout the years are an timeless car and coming across the ones that are able to turn into the above examples are about 45k for a high mileage one. Hopefully one day the s2k's can get to that level if they're preserved! The 911's are more sought after and have alot more years 1970s vs the Even the MY00 AP1's.

To touch base back to it: a S2K "Resto" IMO would go somewhere along the lines
-Some type of FI SC/Turbo
-Reupholstery
-Suspension without wheel gap
-Wider wheels
-Updated LED F/R Lamps

Just random rambling lol.

This is great, this is exactly the kind of stuff I think about all the time.

The Singer 911's are mostly based on the Porsche parts bin, with the exception of some choice pieces (well... most pieces I guess!) But it's interesting to even look across the various iterations of S2's and pick the best of the best parts. Obviously the CR has some great bits on it.

Love the few bullets in the post directly above. It really touches on some of the key things that would upgrade and modernize the car in a still-understated way.
