Is the S2000 the "Right car"
My question is, have you driven one? Go find a dealer that has a used one on the lot, that's what I did. Let them know you're seriously considering the car and go for a test drive. That should help you answer some of your questions.
Good luck!

I agree, drive the car. Then you'll know. And while you're at it, drive the rest too: a Mustang Cobra, a 350Z roadster (if you can get a drive), a Z4, a lightly used Boxster, and so forth. There are quite a few excellent cars on the market defining their own niche and you probably won't know which one resonates most strongly with your hopes until you've gotten a little bit of seat time in all.
this car is perfect for me... ive been idolizing it since it came out, and when i finally got to own one all of my expectations were full.. for me the accel is perfect, i love high revving, the handling feels like its on rails.. and i love that too =P
I'm 28 and have owned the following cars:
1992 Honda Civic
1999 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8T (lightly tuned with suspension/wheels, chip, exhaust)
2001 Lexus IS300 (CIA)
2001 VW GTI 1.8T (same mods as the Audi)
2002 Ford E-350 Cargo Van (don't ask)
I've extensively driven (meaning I know the owners and have taken these cars for a real day trip or extended drives)
2001 BMW 328 Ci
1998 Mercedes C280
2002 Subaru WRX
1998 Porsche Boxster
2002 Corvette Z06
2001 Audi TT
I purchased my 2003 S2000 on January 31, 2004. I love this car so much that I look out my house window just to stare at it!
It is truly a special car. Like no other car I have owned or driven (with the exception of the Z06's brutal speed and the Porsche's stirring engine note) this car leaves something with you, in your soul. It is an amazing driving experience. You will find faster cars, cars that are easier to drive, cars that turn more heads (though this does get tons of looks), cars that have nicer amenities, cars that have a better 'name', cars that have a better stereo....I think you will be hard pressed to find a car that is more fun and can put a smile on your face each time you press that little red engine button.
If this car had the Lotus nameplate, it would have been considered a classic from day 1 and would cost $20K more.
I mimic what one of the posters said above, I can drive this car home on Friday after a long week at work, put the top down and just let all the stress go away, a few bursts up tp the 9K redline and Im in automotive bliss.
There is more to a car then individual performance figures, or prestige, if you want a piece of engineering that will literally stir your soul...drive the S2000.
