I don't want any flaming or hating.....I just want honest opinions. I am looking for a new toy/daily driver. I have been an avid honda man for the last 7 years. Prelude, civic, civic, now I really want an s2000. But I would also like an RX7 and think that I could pick one up cheaper. What do you guys think? Pros and Cons.
The RX7 (93-95) is not a good daily driver car. You have to be a mechanic to own this car or you will spend alot of money fixing it. Trust me I know. Sold my 93' RX7 for the S. I owned a 88 RX7 turbo before it was stolen and that car only give me a few problems compared to the 3rd gen. RX7
LOL. Well I guess that solves that huh? Didn't know all that. My uncle had an RX7 and hadn't had any trouble out of it until the cat got clogged. But I was kinda leaning toward the S anyway. Anyone know of a decently priced one in the midwest or southeast? Live in KY and can't find anything. Looking for around 15K if possible
I have had a 93R1 and now an S2000.
The RX7 I had I picked up with 29k on it.
I did all the required upgrades plus a ton of performance
upgrades.
Things you need to do if the RX7 is your choice.
1) Replace all the vac hoses (alot) with silicon hoses.
2)Bigger intercooler.
3)Radiator and AST upgrade.
My car made 402 at the wheels with race gas and these upgrades:
-Pettit downpipe&midpipe.
-Apex 3.75 inch exhaust.
-Fluidyne radiator.
-Pettit intake.
-Pettit ECU 15lbs boost all gears.
-99 spec turbos.
-Greddy intake elbow.
-Greddy 3 row intercooler.
-1200cc inj.
I never had any problems with the car other than a sticky caliper
and it didnt like 3rd gear at the strip. I ran a 12.6 with street tires and no 3rd gear (1,2,4th).
If you want to make big power the RX7 is a great choice, but you have to have the know how and want to own a vehicle like this. If properly taken care of it can be a great car. I was still worried about it blowing up though.
I now have an S2k with a Comptech blower. Its fast, and I dont get the "is it going to blow up today feeling" every time I drive it. If it does, I might buy another RX7. That thing was scary fast
The RX7 was a ground breaking and beautiful car, unfortunately the reliability was just not there.
The S2000 is much like the RX7 as far as being ground breaking and beautiful, but with Honda reliability added as a bonus (and the ability to drop the top).
